provides info for Io. I dunno of an equivalent for Enceladus.

I don't have the crappy rendering at large distance... What's going on??

The crappy rendering at large distance strongly depends on the number of sprites, color and transparency.

EDIT : Maybe I could use the map shown here, to locate some plumes on Enceladus :

Cham, would be interesting to re think your BH addon using your layer method with several models, explaining with the script the different methods to detect each elements of the BH; have a look here to see what I mean: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:BlackHole1.jpg

And this one can be helpful fro the jet model with sprites: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Onde-radioM87.jpg

FYI, I see nothing at all (which didn't surprise me at all...as I have a laptop with shared memory graphics and openGL 1.4).
I'm pretty sure that sprites require openGL 2.0 at least. :(

Yes ! I was exactly thinking about the green jets shown here :

This is why I added a gentle curve to the model shown previously.

This one is nice too :

Yes, it requires OGL2 (for the moment). However, Chris is planning a major change in the code, about the sprites, so maybe it will be available on machines without OGL2.

Cham wrote:The combination sprites model + 3ds surface with texture gives some pretty views in Celestia, even if it's not perfect as seen from some point of views. In many cases, it's very satisfying and certainly a great improvement.

Here's one of my old black hole with two sprite rings added to it :

EDIT : Eventually, when the sprites code will be polished and fully functional, I'll get rid of all the 3ds surfaces and the accretion disks should be fully made of sprites.
This is beautiful work! :D :D

Cham, I tested your enceladus plume, but what about a few more sprites like this PS mokup? On the left the original rendering. I guess the particules in space would not really follow a earth like plume and be much more diffused... What do you think? I guess you need a few points with specific sprites to render something similar. Perhaps 4 to 6 of those special sprites would be enough...

Here's a first model of a BH jet, superposed on my old animated jets. It's a bit timid, but it looks good in Celestia. More to come.

Here's a second BH jet pair, applied to my central black hole :

And here are the two models (jets only), for you to play with :

Here's a third one of the same kind ;-)

Rasor sharp, laser like pair of jets :

It isn't exactly the shape I want to produce, but there are some progress.

Interesting ! I combined the last two jests together and removed my old animated jets. Here's the result (pretty spectacular, in Celestia). Looks like highly energetic ! (click the pictures for a large version) :

jets1.jpg

jets2.jpg

There's no animation in the jets, though.

I finally found a simple way to design some very nice *generic* jets for most purposes (black holes, galaxies, proto-systems, ...). Here's an example applied to a galaxy :
GalJets1.jpg

GalJets2.jpg

For the curious and the ones with some knowledge of Mathematica and Maple, here's the Mathematica code which is used to generate the jets :

Last jets adapted to another old black hole model :
jets1.jpg

jets2.jpg

jets3.jpg

For comparison, there's a nice picture of a real jet from M87 here :

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... 87_jet.jpg

Next step : deformations of the jets at their extremities, and new accretion disks with spiral effects...

My jets models for black holes have been improved. Here are the latest models (probably the last BH jets, before I turn to galactic distorded jets) :

Galactic jets turned MAD ! LOL
galac1.jpg

Try this model, just for the fun of it ! Gives me some ideas ! :)
Jets.zip

Take note that the mad jets aren't properly oriented relative to this galaxy (selected randomly as a test).

Am I the only one who thought of the Mice galaxies when I saw that last one?
