Celestia 1.6.4

Version 1.6.4 of Celestia is now available for all supported systems. It updates site references to celestiaproject.space and fixes compiling with the latest Lua version 5.4. Celestia 1.6.4 is available for download from the download page.

New domain name

Our new site is celestiaproject.space. Cybersquatters were faster and we're not eager to give them $$$.

Celestia 1.6.3

Version 1.6.3 of Celestia is now available for all supported systems. It fixes issues with 3DS models and location handling, macOS-specific problems such as re-adding support for OS X 10.7 to 10.9 and flickering edges on some GPUs, and fixes some issues with the executable name in celestia.desktop and a buffer overflow in the eclipser finder on Unix-based systems. The Bulgarian translation has been updated, and features from 1.7.0 have been backported, including location updates and allowing binary orbits to work without text sources. Celestia 1.6.3 is available for download from the download page.

Fosshost is going EOL, here's what to expect

Our website is hosted by Fosshost, a website hosting project that caters to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) projects such as Celestia and many others. Just earlier today, Fosshost announced that their servers are going to shut down in the near future and they are going end-of-life. In their own words, from their website: "At this time, Fosshost is deeply sorry to announce we are no longer able to continue offering our services. Due to circumstances outside of the control of the Fosshost volunteers, we are now in a situation where we cannot guarantee our servers will stay online, and in fact expect them to go offline shortly. Because of this, we strongly recommend all Fosshost tenants to backup their data immediately, and migrate elsewhere as soon as possible."

Luckily, some people over at Fosshost started a new, similar project called Radix. This is the most likely option for future hosting of the website. Even though Fosshost announced that their datacenters will be operational until at least the end of the year, they still recommend finding new hosting, and their servers may become unstable, so expect interruptions on the website. Once we are ready to move to Radix, the website will temporarily go offline. One of our Forum Admins, SevenSpheres, is currently attempting to archive as much of the Forums as he can, but it is strongly recommended that you backup any add-ons or pictures regardless. Once the website has been transferred, it will retain the same URL as it does now. Stay tuned on Celestia's socials (Primarily the Discord server, linked on the Forums at the top of the page).

Celestia 1.6.2.2

Version 1.6.2.2 of Celestia is now available for Windows systems. It fixes incorrect work of bookmark manger. Builds for other systems are not affected by this bug. See the download page.

Version 1.6.2.1 of Celestia is now available for Windows systems. It fixes garbage displayed in some dialog boxes in non-Latin locales. Builds for other systems are not affected by this bug. See the download page.

Celestia 1.6.2

Version 1.6.2 of Celestia is now available for all supported systems — see the download page. 1.6.2 contains bug fixes, new and more complete translations, and supports 64-bit Windows and macOS systems. This is especially important for macOS Catalina and newer versions, which have dropped support for 32-bit apps. There are no data updates in this release; they will be added later, but for now you can use Celestia Origin and/or other addons from the Celestia Forums. Mobile Celestia release

Celestia is out of beta testing and now available for iOS and Android, links provided on celestia.mobi. The program was ported to mobile devices by Levin Li.

New owner of the Celestia website

Alexandr Kuznetsov (Alexell) has left the project and transferred ownership rights to Hleb Valoshka (onetwothree), who has created a new server that hosts the Celestia Website and the Forum. For more info, see the forum topic.

A new Celestia fork is announced

Hleb Valoshka (onetwothree) imported the Celestia repository to GitHub more properly, started developing and presented a roadmap on the forum. Subsequently, this fork became the main one.

New Celestia Website and new Forum design

Restored Celestia Forums

Today we are launching restored old Celestia Forums! Unfortunately, the old forum files (attachments and avatars) are lost, therefore many messages are now without pictures. User accounts registered in the 2002-2014 years should work fine.

Welcome to the newly relocated and updated Celestia website. Thanks are due to Chris Laurel, who allowed to transfer website to a new URL. We have updated the top logo, documentation and downloads pages and we make the possibility of translating website into other languages.

Celestia 1.6.1

Celestia 1.6.0

The next major update of Celestia is finally ready. Download version 1.6.0 for Mac, Windows, and Linux from SourceForge. 1.6.0 adds a lot of new capabilities to Celestia. This list describes a few of them. For a thorough list of what has changed, have a look at the change log.

Celestia 1.5.1

Celestia version 1.5.1 is now available for download from SourceForge. 1.5.1 is a bug fix and translation release that offers no new features beyond what it is in 1.5.0. The translations in 1.5.1 are much more complete than in 1.5.0 and fonts with Japanese, Chinese, and Cyrillic character sets are now included in the standard package.
