Ooooo ! This is great news !! :D :D

Finally, we'll be able to get MANY addons right, when those bugs are corrected ! There are TONS of projects that I abandonned because of the depth-sorting problems and that could be resurrected from the ashes !

Okay, being the ignorant low-brow that I am :wink: , what is this depth sorting bug? Does it have anything to do with why models become emissive when they are viewed with a planet or moon in the same frame?

Dollan,

the depth-sorting bugs are some NASTY aesthetical bugs in the Celestia code which prevent the models to show properly, if the models are placed one behind the other, relative to the observer. Sometimes, the model in the background can appear in the foreground, while there's another model in front ! It looks very weird, when it happens. A similar problem can appear with a single model with transparent parts. The parts BEHIND the model can shows in front of the other parts. It's a bit like a glove returned inside-outside out.

Glad to hear it! I might just break down and finally complete the Solar System editor I had plans to do some time back... At the very least make it an editor of sorts... I just dont like using the windows API so it might involve me creating it as an opengl window with a gui... since I have that mostly built already...

Oh and Chris about that 16k barrier :mrgreen: j/k...

I know that a way to update ssc and textures by pressing a key would be really cool... Unless thats already implemented.... I know that when I change a variable in a ssc file I tend to think that it would be easier to refresh the content like a browser :)

that solar system editor, is it the ssc generator on Celestial Visions? or something different? Either way, I'm eager to see it. :)

I think it will start with an updated atmosphere guage as a desktop application... Opengl based showing an actual planet with texture of choice blah blah and will move into a solar system editor... I hope...

THAT would be awesome, especially if you keep its form and function the same as the online version. I have an older desktop version (though I don't know if it was done by you), but it is a little clunkier to use, lacks a sunset field, and tends to reset itself.

Maybe including a small screenshot of a planet surface with the resulting sky colors would be a possible addition?

It will have external and internal views and a way to set the camera in a custom view...

It will use a color picker similar to the ones used in photoshop but will give values clamped between 0 and 1... It should also output text based code in an editor. The editor will be like notepad++ and will be the beginnings of the ssc editor pointing towards the solar system editor gui I have planned... I want it to have a command library that auto updates as you type similar to what Visual Studio does... The editor will probably be windows API but if I do that it will be difficult to port to linux... Thats why Im shooting for a OpenGL interface... I want to keep it simple as I dont have the time to totally geek it out :mrgreen:
