I stayed up last night to watch the landing. So impressive.
NASA is having a press conference now. A few minutes ago, they showed a stop-motion video created from images taken from Curiosity itself as it landed. It showed the heat shield falling away and the dust being blown up by the landing rockets. They said those images will be posted on JPL's page shortly, I'll try to link them here as soon as I can.

That is the heat shield being dropped as Curiosity comes in for landing.

Great picture!
The picture in my earlier post of the heat shield drop is already outdated
They've just released the "hi rez" version of the photo.
The entire series of descent photos should be released in the coming week. Exciting stuff.

As I'm sure most of you know when moving the rover they often refer to distance moved in "wheel rotations". In order to make it easy to tell 1 complete rotation, they marked Curiosity's "feet"
