Re: NASA EYES MSL (mars)
I stayed up last night to watch the landing. So impressive.
NASA is having a press conference now. A few minutes ago, they showed a stop-motion video created from images taken from Curiosity itself as it landed. It showed the heat shield falling away and the dust being blown up by the landing rockets. They said those images will be posted on JPL's page shortly, I'll try to link them here as soon as I can.

It's still ongoing (7:45 EST) if anyone happens to read this soon
*edit
.. here's a video made from those landing images. Posted by JPL
Curiosity
More landing images here, including this gem:
That is the heat shield being dropped as Curiosity comes in for landing.

Great picture!
The picture in my earlier post of the heat shield drop is already outdated They've just released the "hi rez" version of the photo.
The entire series of descent photos should be released in the coming week. Exciting stuff.
Curiosity trivia
Here's little triva on the Rover.
As I'm sure most of you know when moving the rover they often refer to distance moved in "wheel rotations". In order to make it easy to tell 1 complete rotation, they marked Curiosity's "feet"
Look carefully. That's
short long long long , short long long short , short long short short
or

Translated "JPL" in Morse Code.

Hopefuly nobody's getting bored w/ this thread.
NASA just put up the Full resolution of the Full Landing video
Even if you're not on the fastest of connections... it's wellllll worth the d/l time at the top resolution.
