Bug in star "atmospheres". 1.5.0pre5

There are black spots in the atmospheres of stars when viewed at a certain distance. When you get closer, the black spots disappear. When you get further away, the atmosphere disappears.

It appears in all render paths. Changing the FOV has the same effect. Star gets bigger, dots disappear.

I have this bug on my poor config on osX since 1.3! Never been fixed!
If it appears on Windows, hope this will give some clues to fix it on osX...

Confirmed on Windows - this effect is visible between about 0.35 and 0.65 AU from the Sun.

Seems to be that the shape of the disc and the atmosphere halo do not match up, allowing space to be visible between the two.

Not sure how the atmosphere halo is rendered, but it might be an idea to extend it a bit below the surface of the star.

Can confirm this problem on Windows Vista too.

Just FYI...

It has been there for a while though hasn't it? Just never
really bothered me because I normally view any star at
a distance which does NOT display this effect.

Thanks, Brain-Dead

The sun also does a small jump in size when you go from ~1.0 to ~1.06 AU using scaled discs. (Hmm, now it appears from ~0.3 to ~0.4 AU.)

Cham's Magnetic earth looks like a star from a certain distance. (And that happens to a lot of other addons too for that matter.)

I can also confirm the black dots in the atmosphere.

One other odd thing I noticed is that if you go to Pluto and retract from the planet you could see that the label 'Pluto' disappears before the label of 'Charon'. That happens even if Charon is closer to the viewer then Pluto is. (I think the moon labels should always disappears before the host planet's label)

One other thing, choosing the sun now gives me "Sol / Sol / Sun" (Localized in Swedish). In earlier versions it just read "Sol / Sun". Why the extra "Sol /"

Cheers,
