Was simply fascinated by the following:
http://www.physorg.com/news97252339.html
New Horizons has a look at Jupiter on its way to Pluto.
Very cool.
Time for a new add-on?

Yup, it's Io. The same picture on the New Horizons Web site is properly labelled:

Aw Selden,
You just took all of the fun I was gonna have out of this thread...
At any rate, I still think an add-on for Io's eruptions would be cool.
One of these days, I'll get there.
Would also like to do one for Triton. Nitrogen outbursts erupting
from the ground and darkening the surrounding neighborhood's.
Thanks, Bob

Bob,
Actually, I was feeling quite grumpy about the sloppy reporting on the physorg site.
You may be glad to know that an Io volcanic eruptions addon already exists! Chris posted it to one of the forums not too long ago.. Well, if one considers May to be "not too long ago"
It's on the 3rd page of this thread:
http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11051&
It uses point sprites in the OpenGL 2.0 render path.
[edit]
And there's another one by buggs_moran on page 5 of the thread.

They say "Image of the planet Jupiter seen by the New Horizons spacecraft." but obviously it is NOT Jupiter !!!
Ciao

Incorrect. They state "Pluto-Bound New Horizons Provides New Look at Jupiter System". Io is part of the Jupiter System.

Thanks again Selden...
It's amazing what one can miss in a short time away (Galactic
Time) from this place.
You know...
One of these days, I'm gonna be able to help YOU out for a change.
Many thanks again, Bob

What's really amazing to me is that - even with the furor over this
topic - the site remains unchanged. I know that at least a few of the
people here have even sent e-mails to them.
All to no avail apparently.
Go figure.
