Hi everybody!

I'm new here, and I just downloaded Celestia yesterday...but already it's my new addiction. I LOVE it. I've been using AstroSynthesis for a fairly long time, so it wasn't that hard for me to get going with it. Don't get me wrong, I love AS too...with its 'generate star system' function, and its random texture generator...but the graphics are about 100 times less amazing than Celestia, and my computer has a harder time running it.

I'm really, really excited about making my own star system!!! I've followed a walkthrough, but there were problems...I'll make a seperate post about that. I DID get my star and planet working...complete with my own texture map! :D

In short, I'm an artist...and this program is pure genius. A dream come true.

Apollonius,

Welcome!

Many people seem to find Celestia addicting. I think perhaps that is because it stimulates both analytical and artistic portions of the brain. Other people seem to find it frustrating for the same reason.

Thanks for the welcome! I can tell you right now...my problem will be with the coding portion. I've been doing ok so far, but I just started, and what I'm trying to do is totally simple.

Oh well...if people will just be a little bit patient with me, that would be great. I may not be the best at coding yet, but I can literally crank out planet/moon terrains all day...and I do requests! :D I may post some that I've done in the textures forum later on today...

Sure! I love to make them. When I say 'crank out' though...what I mean is that my random generator can crank them out all day. I NEVER just keep the default image though, but instead tweak it for 2-3 hours sometimes until it's as perfect as I can get it.

I guess keep an eye out at the textures forum? Only put it back in before you talk to me, or you'll freak me out.

And thanks, everybody for the welcome!

Are you using fractal world explorer from astro synthesis to generate textures? I just acquired a copy today and looks very useful.

Yup, that's what I use. And you're right...it's pretty powerful. Every texture I've ever posted here was made with it. Oh, btw...I posted an Earth-like terrain in the textures forum for you! I would have PM'ed it, but I was afraid it would become shrunken (as has been the case for me before).
