Where can I find free bumpmaps of European countries?

...no ideas... ML? or you can make one by using Fridger's normal map tool (search the forum for specific thread)...

I' have an idea. :idea:

With what program can I convert a DEM file to a bumpmap.

picture / DEM file is 4901 * 4251 pixels

There are many programs that can read a DEM and generate a picture from it. A bumpmap is a grey-scale picture, with white for the highest points and black for the lowest.

I've used 3DEM to do this. it's freeware for Windows.

Thanks for your help.

I'll download and install it quickly.

There are a lot of terrains made that work in Celestia, like in the star wars addon.

What program is mostly used for generating terrains like those, is it Terragen?

And is it possible to make, generate that kind of terrain from bumpmap and other maps with it?
EDIT: Checked on website: it is possible.
(I assume that a terrain is a .3ds object)
