Help for ssc COROT file

Post #1by Carlytos » 02.01.2007, 11:42

I'm creating a model for the new space telescope COROT launched last 27 december. Creating a ssc file is very hard for me so i hope somebody make it for me ( and for all of us).
Some information about orbital elements are avaible here:
http://smsc.cnes.fr/COROT/GP_mission.htm
Thank you and sorry for my bad english

Hi!
The piece of ssc code below is a good starter.
It will make your model fly :D
I have tested it with the Chandra model which looks like Corot.

Code: Select all

"Corot" "Sol/Earth"
{
Class "spacecraft"
Mesh "corot.3ds"  # or corot.cmod
Radius 0.0045 #  4100 mm x 1984 mm plus solar panels - 9 m diam. total

# Orbital elements are only approximately correct
# Mostly taken from the CNES and other websites; not all data have been published yet
   EllipticalOrbit
   {
   Period 0.0715 #
   SemiMajorAxis 7274 #
   Eccentricity 0.00127 #
   Inclination 90.0 #
   AscendingNode 12.5 #
   ArgOfPericenter 0.0 # ???
   MeanAnomaly 0.0 # ???
#   Epoch ???
   }
   Albedo 0.7
}

Good luck with your modelling!

Carlytos,

Thanks for your efforts doing this nice model. It's really appreciated. However, I've inspected your Corot model and there are several defects to work out :

1- Firstly, the 3ds file is pretty big (11.5 MB !) for what it is. Please, try to optimize your models. Remove all the invisible triangles, since they are also afflicting the frame rate in Celestia.

2- See the pictures below. There are some seams visible which could be removed in the modeler. Especially at the rear (circular part).

3- The gold foil is badly mapped. I think it could be better. On the picture below, I removed the foil to show the mesh problems.

4- There are holes visible on the "cylindrical" part. See the second picture below.

5- On the same "cylindrical" part, there are two invisible cylinders, inside the main tube, that needs to be optimized. There's too much triangles for nothing, there.

6- The white part on the panels, is this normal ? It's not of the same colors as the rest of the panels. Is it like this, on the real thing ? I may be wrong, but I suspect it isn't.

Thanks Cham for your appreciation of my model
1) I'll try to remove some invisible triangles but it will reduce the entire model about some hundred kb to maximum 1 mb cause the solar panel are 9 mb and i don't think to reduce it cause the very large amount of detail ( the solar panels are the better feature in my model ...i think... and i like it very much)
Furthermore i had no notate dramatic frame rate afflicting in Celestia (my Pc is an old Athlon 2400 with a 128 mb video card)
3) The gold foil is bad...i'm agree
4)I'll try to eliminate it an so i'll eliminate the 5) two invisible cilinders
6) About white parts on solar panel please visit this official site

Bye and thank you again
