Nice pictures from Leiden, I've been there many times.
Too bad of the cloudy and windy weather.

By the way:

Ullrich , would that be our Adirondac ??
I always wanted to know how all you guys look like,
for some reason I think Fridger wears a beard,
Chris looks like Phil Collins , and Selden: no idea :)

Yes, that's Adirondack.

And let's clear this up: I don't look a thing like Phil Collins. :)

Hey, nice to meet you Chris!
I've been looking at some of your galleries and I prefer your informal look on top of one of those mountains! (much relax)

Me too. But in those pictures I'm covered with climbing gear, which makes it more difficult to show that I look nothing at all like Phil Collins :)

Fridger with a beard? mmhh, I don't know... I imagine him much more with some nice blond braids...

I think I saw Selden somewhere... ...but I don't recall where... :x

For the fun, me 6 months ago when I still had some time to dedicate to my backyard... (now a real jungle...) :?

Funny, I always imagined you as a giant black cat... ;)

Where is that mountain anyway? Looks rather impressive!

Ah, thought it looked (and sounded!) Himalayan... how high up are you there? And do you know what sort of rock sitting on? Looks like it's got lots of bits of other rocks in it... (sorry, ever the geologist...!)

Altitude on the picture is about 5800 meters.

Ah... always wondered what it was like to be somewhere that the atmospheric pressure was significantly lower... so er, what's it like? ;)

Well, the atmosphere is really "special" up there. First, there's a very strong contrast of temperature between shadows and light. In the shadows, it's very cold. In the sun's light, it may be pretty hot. The air is very dry. Also, if you move fast, you can feel the lack of oxygen. You need to breath stronger, and some people may get a strong headache, or may even get seriously sick. Personaly, I didn't had any trouble up there. The sky has a strange color : it's deep blue (darker than the normal sky near sea level). The wind is very strong, also. And the weather is very unpredictable. Sometimes, a snow storm can rise very fast. If that happens, you can be in deep trouble there, since you can't see few meters away, literally ! You can lose your way easily, in a snow storm. At the time I was there, there was a medium strong snow storm and we had to stop for some moment until it goes away. After that, all the rocks were covered in snow, and it was pretty rough to walk in there. I have several very nice pictures of that (not digital). I'll have to scan them.

I love the air sensation up there. It's refreshing. And all those tibetan prayers flags flapping in the wind, it's so cool !
