Hiking in Paradise (Engadin Ch)

Hi all,

after three weeks of gorgeous hiking in the high Alps of the Engadin/Switzerland (admittedly with suboptimal weather), I am back home since this weekend. With 17 full-day hikes the amount of training is quite remarkable. The total accumulated altitude ranges between Mt Everest and Mt Olympus (depending on the weather) and the horizontal walking distance ranges around 200 - 250 km...

Anyway, lots of work is waiting for me in the office. Since my mobile phone camera is now delivering 2 megapixel photos, here is a tiny (rescaled) sample, to give you a feel of the paradise!

Hey Fridger,

Nice Pictures, they remind me allot of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California were I grew up. I need to take some pictures of the eden I have here in my own backyard of Oregon. Truely another paradise.

I was thinking the same thing. It's been a long while that I was there. But they do remind me of the Sierra.

Fridger, that is quite a hike. It's good to do these things while the body can still take it.

sure looks alot different from IL, where I'm stationed at right now. On of these days I'm going to have to take a vacation to someplace a little more verticle.

Very nice! It definitely looks a lot more cool than where we were over the weekend, in and around Glacier National Park. But then, we're moving through the hottest part of our summer, so things that were lush before are starting to get a wee bit brittle, not to mention a High Fire Danger rating that will likely be in place until October (there are already several underway right now). I'll get some pictures posted in that photo-thread of mine here in Purgatory as soon as we get them processed off of the cameras.

Indeed the Engadin is an amazing spot on this globe. The famous philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche spent 7 consecutive summers there and created some of his most significant works in Sils Maria/Engadin. Moreover, Hermann Hesse was there frequently and various well known painters spent major parts of their lifes in that area. We meanwhile spent 13 consecutive hiking vacations in the Engadin (which adds up to a significant portion of a year ) and still discover new exciting hikes every year...

The area hosts some of the highest mountains of the alps including Piz Pal??, Piz Rosegg, Piz Bernina (4049 m), Piz Zupo (3996 m) .
