My only gripe (and it's a very small one) is that the prominences are moving at a speed much faster than light speed. I managed to slow two of the flares right down, but one of them is still zipping across mira at warp speed. Is there a way of slowing this one down. Also, I made a Beta Lyrae add-on for myself last year, but compared to the one you're making , it was just two glowing eggs whipping round each other. Can't wait till it's done. It looks good.

Thanks, great to know your son likes it. The red giant texture is actually a modified texture (see http://shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6446) by rthorvald (edit: should be TECH SGT CHEN). Yes the flares are a bit out of motion scale. :? I wasn't concerned as it is still (still, still, still) a beta. I just can't seem to find the time to work on all of these addons, and I keep coming up with new ideas.

Right now I am working on a special request for someone that wants to use it in his talks. Sorry to those who have been patient with the progress (or lack thereof). I will be working on all soon, as I should be coming into a bit more free time as the summer approaches.

This is SS Cygni. It is a cataclysmic binary that orbits every 6.9 hours. The distance in the first image is in km. The primary is the white dwarf at 1.2 M_sol. The secondary is a K star. The star texture is by Tech Sgt Chen. I sent him an email for use but have not recieved a reply. Chen, where are you?

Waou 8O it looks great as usually !
Well done !

Do you plan to build a "gaz bridge" between the two stars ?

Yes. There will be some sort of gas stream. I still wish there was a way for cyclical linear motion, but I am beating a dead horse. There is motion on all other parts of the binary and disk. This particular binary almost requires a matter transfer stream.

I know I keep doing this to you guys, but I promise there will be betas soon. I just keep toying with the models, etc... Here is the latest on SS Cygni. Full motion disk, correct orbital parameters (LoK). Clicking on the image will bring up a short sweep across the disk.

8O Sorry Buggs but, I created that Red Giant Texture.
Hi guys. Listen, they're telling me the uh,
generators won't take it, the ship is breaking apart and all that. Just, FYI.

I am so sorry Chen. I must have mixed it up early on, I was working with both textures... I obviously will give credit where it is due. I think I even tried to contact you through your website at one time... Would you have any issues with me using a modified version of your texture for these addons?

Even worse, I was just reading through my posts above and found this from March 22...the SAME post I misreferenced you in. Now I feel really dumb...

Buggs,

this addon will be a real killer.... :)

A note: I took my "quick & dirty" Beta Lyrae (which was just a test of the new .stc features) inspiration from a painting which was printed in an old popular science book. Loved that painting when I was child. Science has proceeded a bit meanwhile...

 I have no problem with you using a modified version of my texture in your Add-On. As long as I get appropriate credit. I haven't been posting to the forums for a while but, I have been trying to keep as current as I can. Browsing the many posts I've missed has been a slow process. BTW, your Mira Add-On is nothing short of spectacular! I will be downloading a copy when it's complete.
I've always felt that stars don't get enough attention in Celestia but, you're helping to change that. I hope to slowly get things back in order with my life. After two HD crashes and a subsequently fried laptop, I purchased a new Laptop and, luckily, saved many of my star textures along with many projects templates I was working on. Still trying to get my website back in order. So many lost usernames and passwords I had to recover. What a mess! Anyway, good luck with your Mira project.
If I can be of any assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.

Chen, Thanks. I will be in touch soon so you can play with some of the cataclysmic variable systems... Is private messaging the best way to get to you?

That painting by Bonestell (I am assuming we are talking about the same artist) is one of my favorites too. I hope to even have the L2 tail...
