new addon idea

Post #1by avpruler » 20.02.2006, 20:22

i can't make models or textures or scripts but if anyone else wants to make it here ya go:

maybe make a system of planets base off the alien planets since alien universe add-on only has one planet :( .

this add-om should have Livenum, its 4 moons: LV426,LV1201,LV349, and LV211.

Now the second Planet: Szaro(earth like planet) and its two moons malinas and karasena.

3rd planet a Muanasa a greenish gas giant with ten moons(maker can choose those names)

4th planet(and final) Yavol no moons yavol is just a red rock no atmoshere.
Fall Out Boy!!!

W00T!!!!! ^^ ^^ ^^

Avp,

Then perhaps you should consider learning how to create your own planets. Making your own can give a lot of satisfaction. And then they're just what you want.

One place to start is http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celest ... intro.html

Those who don't possess modeling & coding skills ought to feel comfortable making requests from those who do.

Indeed they should.

However many Addon makers don't even have enough time to work on projects they've already committed to...

...and contemplate at the same time what they might be able to contribute to the community instead of coding!

Also, it might be worth recalling that those possessing coding skills were not given these skills by "some higher being" ;-) . Rather, it was plenty of (mental) "sweat", self discipline and devoted spare time ...

I agree with Selden and Fridger. I have spent many hours leaning how to write working systems for Celestia, 3d design and textures (which my wife thinks is a strange way for me to spend my time, but anyway). Anyone, and I mean this in a nice way, who names himself after a game that he is good at (avpruler, this is an assumption on my part of course) should be able to pry himself/herself away from a gaming console to learn something else. I tell my students all of the time that the one of the reasons they have difficulty learning is because they do not take the time necessary to LEARN it. You learn how to beat games, memorize cheat codes, guitar riffs, song lyrics, etc by practice. That's how all of us learned Celestia material. If you need help comprehending the mathematics or astronomical phenomenae do a search on the web or in this forum. If you still have trouble (i.e. the math is a bit beyond you or you haven't learned in in school) by all means, ask.

Sorry to barge in.

But I understand your pain. So I developed a rather crude app for creating ssc (Solar System Catalog) files. It may not be Visual Celestia++ but its helpful in developing your own systems.

It is crude however I am working on a newer version of it with easier apps and tools.

You can get a copy of it here:

I also have a forum post about it here on shatters that I update regularly.

I think it varies by community. This isn't really a community that's based on "requests". On some forums, like scifi-meshes.com there are specific boards on which to make requests, and someone might take up the request. But here, people are generally expected to make the effort to at the very least learn how to write ssc and stcs themselves. It's how we all started, I think - where we stop depends on how far we want to go. I can make some nice sscs and stcs, I can write scripts, but I can't progam C++ (now, FORTRAN on the other hand...). But over time I've learnt enough to be able to create what I want in Celestia, and I've done it off my own back - asking for help when I needed it obviously, but not expecting others to just make stuff for me when I could do it myself.

It really isn't hard to write sscs and stcs. avpruler can easily do it himself, if he's that keen to see his system. The trick is to learn to walk before you can run though.
