Here's the beginnings of a webpage to host Celestian Locations. Any comments/questions (and solutions)/suggestions would be appreciated. I'd like to know if there is enough interest to continue with this, and also if anyone can anticipate any issues or problems.
For example:
Q: How do we resolve duplicate locations, where 2 people enter the same lat/long because they live close to each other in the same city?
A: User must enter deg, mins, and secs to a required accuracy. In addition, I would have to check for conflicts as part of the process of updating the repository.

A: this is why i spoke about GE: when the area is well-covered, you can zoom in (and point a tag) exactly on your proper home. GE provides coordonates that you can copy for a Celestian .ssc :
Location "Jeam Tag" "Soleil/Terre" # Villiers sur Orge, France
{
LongLat [2.303500548989796 48.65804996823399 0]
Importance 100.00
Type "Other"
}

Location "My Neighbor" "Soleil/Terre" # Villiers sur Orge, France
{
LongLat [2.303368868904364 48.65814248325709 0]
Importance 100.00
Type "Other"
}
(The precedent abstract of the Celestian map I try to wrote + the location of my closest neighbor). Jeam

That certainly sets a high standard for zooming! I calculate your neighbor is ~18 metres from you. :wink:

Oh, even this stuff is approx. See what I placed:
ImageThis is easier with a good resolution of the Google maps (but for USA you have great ones, see NY for example), for my place, It wasn't so clear when GE began (with the Keyhole archives), My place was some meters out of limits of a more precise tile, but 6 months later, the tile was updated (hrm, 2 years old, but..) and I can see what you can see there. The little Celestian .ssc file I began was converted for the .kml file I tryied with GE.Jeam

Ok, (the coverage isn't the same that GE, it seems to me, but in this case, uses similar resolution). Same area with GE:

I checked my position mark in our Frap Celestia Users map, and it's OK, even if it doesn't go so deep in enlargment. :wink:
Hope this helps.

Yes, Andrea! I remenber your comment about the car, now :lol: The coords' I improved were a copy of the Frappr! location. Grmbl, this system isn't very efficient...
I have corrected your loc in my .kml and .ssc.
So, for fun, is this other place right? :wink:

Sorry, Plutonian, I'm afraid of your area isn't so well covered, even in GE... You can see with Frappr! at the tag you placed, the last levels aren't available in satellite view. There is a similar map in GE:

Here is an updated map. I know it's not exact. I never really wanted to see what house people live in... Just the region. :)

I did find my house though, but it's really fuzzy. ;)

my exact latitude and longitude (according to GE) is lat=45.5153122668, lon=-93.5598699384.

Well, more exact placement may be useful, in case of numberous people in the same street :-) So, my little test has a little update, too .(with some approximative places: as you said, this is first to visualize the repartition :)

Very cool ssc Jeam. Of course, the quote above could be solved by my Celestia wish of cyclical motion. Maybe Adirondack could have

Updated. With lots of approximations, of course. For Adirondack, waiting for Ulrich's preference about his location... I'm thinking that the rock location maybe great (but only Celestia can do that, not GE or the Frappr! map). And I Hope Celestians will correct their refs :wink: . Jeam
