Selden,

I do absolutely agree with you.
So I did add it to the catalog on the CML and it was not my intention to persuade modellers to avoid modelling such rockets!

"Very innacurate." is no addition by me but what you wrote in the long description section of your Add-On information via the upload form at CML! So you must know what you meant!

LOL! Im sorry, I suppose I don't have enough confidence in myself. And a bad memory!!! Well, soon I will be able to remove this bit, for now that I have accustomed myself to anim8or over the past few weeks, I have been able to create a rocket of much higher realism, without the funnily behaving polygons and hopefully with Medusa's SSC!! This model will be done as soon as i can manipulate the texture around it, it is currently static and will not budge with UV mapper. Im a problem magnet.

This new problem will take my anti 1337 skillz some time to cope with!!!

Amazing to think that this rocket gave birth to NASA's space exploration project. A somewhat shady and dubious effort to regain some balance of power after WW2 and, of course to cover Von Braun's links to the SS!

I should add that if the Americans didn't get him the Russians would have...The 'Original' space race!

Should be in Celestia never the less.

Sitting Duck, your color scheme what rocket shows?
I mean, it's a German V2, or an USA A4?
My question is due to many doubts I have on this scheme, as follows:
here is one image of the German V-2,
[img]http://www.palatinumclub.it\v2.jpg[/img]
and you see that its scheme is very different from your one.
Here are V2 informations and data:

Code: Select all

http://www.v2rocket.com/start/makeup/design.html

here are all the B&W, olive green and grey-green paintings:

Code: Select all

http://www.v2rocket.com/start/makeup/b_w_ver1.gif

Code: Select all

http://www.v2rocket.com/start/makeup/bw_scheme2.jpg

Code: Select all

http://www.v2rocket.com/start/makeup/v2_late.gif

and here the color camouflages

Code: Select all

http://www.v2rocket.com/start/makeup/gebatikt.jpg

Code: Select all

http://www.v2rocket.com/start/makeup/v2_wavy.gif

In these pages you can find the images of ALMOST all the A-4 rockets used in the USA after WW2, like this one, lifting off from White Sands:
[img]http://www.palatinumclub.it\a-4.jpg[/img]

Code: Select all

http://www.postwarv2.com/usa/ws/ws.html

Code: Select all

http://www.postwarv2.com/nasmlist/nasmlist.html

Code: Select all

http://www.postwarv2.com/paintschemes/paintschemes.html

Moreover the proportions are not exact, IMHO: here you can see that the fin length was 1/3.45 of total length, while in your model it seems much shorter. For this reason, while the max diameter/total length rate is almost correct, the shorter fin length gives the false impression that your model is "slimmer" than the real one.
Here is the blueprint with the exact dimensions of the German V2:

Code: Select all

http://www.v2rocket.com/start/makeup/blueprint.pdf

I'm sure that some small changes will bring your model much closer to the real one.
Bye

Andrea

Whoah! Ok, check wikipedia's page on V2 rockets, and look at the first image. Then tell me my colour scheme is wrong. Yes the fins are not accurate, I used my Mark 1 eyeball and a reference image, but it cannot be perfect.

Me and my butterfingers pressed the join solids button, so moving the fins about will take me a bit, dont worry I also had some other things to change anyway. At least the etxture works nowz!

Thanks for all the texture plans though! getting all the checkers in the right place on the fins is tough!

Sitting Duck, I wish only to help you, having a lot of experience in plastic modellind, so used to find the best information regarding the models I wish to build. 8O
I found the Wikipedia V2 image, but as you see it's a "replica", and this means the color scheme can be NOT accurate, or art least I have not found it in any of the (not so many, alas!) V2 images I found in the Web.
FYI, some actual aircraft, satellites and so on, on display in Museums all over the world, have wrong color schemes, markings or camouflages, so probably this is the case. :x
In my hobby just for this reason we always use the images of REAL things , not of replicas, and moreover we search for a lot of different sources, comparing them and finally choosing the most relaible ones.
Hope this may help you.
And, BTW, any intention to transform this horrible instrument of death in one of the first Space Conquest instruments, i.e. the Bumper (A-4 plus WAC-Corporal)?
The "Bumper" rocket in February 1949 reached an altitude of 393 km. Give a look here:

this texture is so ridiculously difficult to apply, it always looks nice, and then when i rotate the model its mangled. perhaps I will go with your bumper advice!

SD,

One way to guarantee that the color scheme is correct is not to use textures at all. Instead, you can cut the final model into pieces and color each piece individually.

Of course, this works best when the pattern is relatively simple :)

I have just uploaded the second version of the V2/A4 model which I previously submitted and was very unhappy with. robybasso's SSC helped tremendously! Thank you very much. Now my new model (texture still based upon Penemunde replica >_< ) and his SSC can be foudn together! Soon I guess.
