Celestia doesn't open at all

Post #1by agentgro420 » 30.09.2005, 14:14

I'm using an Nvidia tnt 2 graphics card and i don,t think that this is THE problem cause everyother programs are opening, even game that are not really supported by my old card.

So, the problem is that when i double-click the celestia icon, it doesn' open at all, but when i verify the system, it says that it's running, but it's not..

i uninstall celestia and reintall it, but it didn't worked...what should i do??

I've often seen this symptom when one of the default catalogs is corrupted.

If you haven't already, you might try downloading a fresh copy of Celestia.

A funny thing happened to me today.

I was editing a dsc file for one of my addons and after saving it, Celestia refused to start. It took a while but I soon realized that the dsc file was causing the runtime error. Anyhow the file was edited with Word Pad from Windows XP Pro. Anyone having problems starting Celestia may want to keep that in mind.

After replaing the file with a backup everything worked fine. While looking at the corrupted file along side the backup, in Word Pad both files looked identical. The corrupted file was one byte larger. An invisable byte. I should have looked at the file with a hex editor but I already deleted it. Oh Well.

Yes... I don't know why, but Wordpad uses some formatting and control
characters in its processing, and I've found through trial and error that you
should always use plain-old Notepad to edit your DSC, SSC, STC files, etc.

Just advice from someone who's had the same problem.

Thanks.
