Hey Spiff,

As the big work is done, what about adding some pics, creating a new post with the whole thing, and then I will add it to the list of tutorials I have created some times ago (http://www.shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7183)?

I take it no one has even looked at my video tutorial on the subject. I guess I wasted my time.
I am officially a retired member.
I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

Hi ElChristou, Don. Edwards,

Perhaps I should ElChristou. I just checked your sticky thread for the first time, so maybe I should explore it. Unfortunately, I often miss updates on stickies, because they just hang there and I've trained myself to ignore them. Oops.

Sorry Don. I don't mean to tread on your toes. Also, I can't play WMV's, for some reason these always download as characters straight into the browser window. I'm generally not in a hurry to fix that.

Before I rush off to create screenshots, is there anything in my 'report' that isn't already covered by Don's posts/video so far, and would a phpBB post be a more efficient alternative to a 19MB download? What shall we agree I do? (No 'contractual obligations' please!)

Spiff,

I haven't yet download the Don. Ed. movie so I cannot say...
I think you should do your tutorial, for people who don't have DSL and won't download a big file "just" for a tutorial... Presenting it by steps, it can be very clear (see my own tuts - mini tut for pinch effect and mini tut for blending modes)...

The server sends the video using the Content-Type "text/plain" - and your browser (correctly!) tries to display it as text. This has to be changed on the server, but until then you can use right-click and "Save as...".

Don,

I also tried right away after your announcement, but failed as well.
Just saw letters. Since I did not have enought time for "research" at that time, I gave up. In general, it would be good to choose a format that is not only used in the Windows world.

But in general I am able to replay the WMV format. Certainly most (non-expert) Linux users will fail with WMV.

Thanks again for your great effort.

Bye Fridger

t00fri, please ansver me: how to make black bacground to be transparent? I mind not edit blend in layer style, bacause it produced bad results (some pixels removes and black background remayn). I need convert level to Opacity! In example: some textures for galaxies (celestiamotherlode) has transparency areas and black areas with bright spots (bad textures), other textures (such as M83) is true transparent texture without black background (excellent texture). My question: how to make excellent textures? Im not newby in Photoshop, but i dont know some things about working with this.

I'm not Fridger, but meanwhile he is out for a while, have a look at the Spaceman Spiff tutorials on cloudsmap:

http://www.shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7650

I have added some step for photoshop users for getting good transparency...

Also have a look at

http://www.shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7183

for more tutorials...

Hope this can help.

Bye

I'm found how to do this in GIMP(i'm gonna upload modified galaxi textures to celestiamotherlode), but in Photoshop CS is not possible to make alpha chanel - it's very uncomfortably!

Don't forget that one image can be added as the transparency channel of another image by using command-line tools like NetPBM and ImageMagick.
