The only way it works for me is the following:
I delete the MGS entries em shoxmars
Put MGS_F in models
Put the MGS_F entries in spacecraft.ssc inside Celestia>data

For some reason, simply putting into extras didn??t work.
Nor did just adding replace MGS.

??? Really strange... You are a Windows user, right?
Have you done some modification of your data files before this?
Have you compile Celestia yourself?

I made no modifications in the data.
I simply unzip the file to Celestia>Extras
And Celestia automatically created a folder named MGS_F.
I didn??t understand either

Daniel,if you also have a folder for shroxmars in your extras folder ,this will get loaded after the MGS-F one because it is sorted alphabetically.Jestr

Already have it running on my new system (which isn't horribly advanced, but it is somewhat better than what I have been using). Looking really good!

I downloaded the foil version, but I'm wondering if perhaps the partially transparent version would be even better?

To everybody,

It would be cool (AND I'M NOT SAYING THAT ONLY FOR MY MODELS ) to rate the models and others stuff on ML... I have been diging there for a while, and too many files don't have rating...

ElChristou,

your MGS model is very nice, but it is definitely NOT OK for Linux users: As I have discussed "agressively" ;-) elsewhere, words with spaces in between are interpreted as several words! So 'MKS TF' would turn a Linux /beginner/ crazy...While it might even work (since the 'extras/' dir "eats" about everything placed into it) , Linux Newbies would not know how to copy or delete such multi-word biests, for example.

Similarly bad is 'Read me.txt'. In Linux/Unix its usually called Readme.txt.

  Very sorry... I will check all this again... (Have you downloaded the files from the forum or from ML? I think I have already done a correction of this on the ML files, but perhaps forgot with the "Read me"...)

Oh, I will once I get back to work where my new system is at!

And don't worry, I try to make a habit of rating and leaving comments on stuff that I download!

**chuckles** I have a very liberal office here at the university, and it is located in the dorms anyway. Besides, it's my computer (since the school computer can't handle Celestia!).

Why not be greedy and run all three, or maybe less greedy like me and run the two you have mentioned above ?

I have given myself a time period of 6 months from the beginning of this year to take a look at the semi-transparent version;

I've called the semi-transparent version "scientific" because I've had an idea of seeing how the model would look if some of the main scientific components were labelled up.....now, if only I could get hold of a 3ds version, so I can experiment using Anim8or. :)

Don't lose your time asking, nobody has a 3ds...
The reason is simple, I want my models to stay in the Celestia community... So the cmod is cool for this. No migration to other softs, no commercial use...

I tend to agree with this viewpoint. Not only is CMOD supposedly a better format for Celestia (faster loading) , but only the author can edit his model. Integrity is stronger. However, the CMOD format is bigger on disk than the 3ds version.

I must confess I've edited almost all the SF models made (or converted) for Celestia that I've downloaded. I've corrected many defects on those models. So if everybody in the future upload their models in the CMOD format, I may have some problems to edit them to my personal taste.

I guess there's a price to pay for any of those two choices : models in 3ds, or models in CMOD ?

Terrier, Cham,

Let give me more time to know better the people here (I'm only present in the community since 3 months...) and we will talk again about this...

****

To Everybody, as I have deleted the previous links, you can now download the MGS models from ML (without any problem for Linux users):

Foiled: http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/creators/elchristou/EC_MGSf.zip
Unfoiled: http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/creators/elchristou/EC_MGSnf.zip
Transparent foil: http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/creators/elchristou/EC_MGStf.zip

Bye

Hello ElChristou,
Firstly, I respect your viewpoint on the model remaining in cmod format, so that it stays within the Celestia community. I have no intention of distributing any of your work to any other possible sources out there for commercial gain, or for any other reason.
I was only intending to "experiment" with the model for my own personal satisfaction, with a view to seeing if there might be a response for a version of the semi-transparent model with labels.
This I did by going "public" with my announcement to the Celestia community.

Secondly, I would be amazed if any one else apart from yourself would have a 3ds version.

I totally agree. As long as everyone is able to run a cmod version of a model, then this should be the standard format for all future models.

The reason I was asking for a version in 3ds, is because as far as I know, there is no way I can import a cmod version into anim8or which is the modelling program I have. 3ds models, however I can import.

My own personal policy for producing models is to release them in cmod and 3ds.

regards,
TERRIER

Yes, I also want to be able to edit some models for my personal taste, but I can't do it with the CMOD version. Only the 3ds format is editable. I also agree that it's a good thing to publish both formats at the same time (3ds and CMOD). However, it's the author who decide. If someone feel his model could be used wrongly for any other activity than Celestia, then he has a perfect solution : CMOD.
