Nop, I don't believe the spash exist on osX... this is the proof of my abnegation... I'm working for nothing...

That one I DO like! However the /engraved/ lettering is quite nonsensical from a physics point of view ;-) . Escher would have liked it, however...Know Escher?

Who don't know Esher???

You display the letters as being /engraved/ into Europa and Jupiter, while this is clearly impossible like this.

Do you thing your big letters floating in front of Mars are possible then??

More in a while...

I made 3 of my own splash screens. They're not much, but I think they're nice.

Impossible?? No Sir, in fact this wasn't so easy to do... as LandArt combinated whith a happening in space...

First I had to send a mega lazer device to engrave both planet an satelite this way (note that what you see below is a really rare piece of art... I can sell you this for 12 millions US$):

Image

Then with my private space rocket I had to take the photo...

So as you can see, to get the right image you have to be at a precise point in a precise time... Calculating proportion and deformation of letters on those celestian bodies, was quite hard, believe me.

Bye.

Joli! Convoquer Magritte ou Esher, il faut le faire! Nice! with Esher and Magritte we have great pictural references here! Jeam

yeeeeees....
Not a good adverticement at least for a 3d graphics masterpiece ;-)

Just Escher's view is more adequate...

Actually... ;-)

if I find a little time tonight, I do the letter engraving via a (negative) bumpmap on Jupiter and Europa. Then I'll display the setup in Celestia and take a screenshot.

In other words, I shall exactly follow your description ;-)

The result will look QUITE different, though...

You bet ;-)

Really, I think the only way to make your view "happen" is via Christophe's "excuse" above...

I won't bet over this, but this kind of "Art" has already been done on landscape... Only one point of view gives you the artist vision...

The test in Celestia is time consumming as the deformation and proportion of letters is not easy to calculate... perhaps in reverse engenering with the tools you use for the cylindrical projection... One problem also is the FOV I use for the shot; it's an important factor in this example...

To do a correct test we need a cel and the FOV (I don't know if a cel contain the FOV info)

As promised this afternoon, here is a little fun:

I added a "C E L E S T I A" bumpmap file to both Europa and Jupiter and then tried to replay ElChristou's above configuration in 3D. The screendump result looks like this:

Image

Notice the perspective effects and the wrapping effects of the letter engravings around the bodies...

This image is of course not to be viewed as a "splash" candidate!

Why not?? (after all...)

But in this bump map you have not deformed the letters to respect horizontal lines...

I think better not try, you will lose time for not much...

Perhaps tonight a last Splash, then latter another mini tutorial for newbies on layers style and fusion...
Spashs are funny but for a good job is time consuming, and I really have to end the SpaceShipOne model, a new shuttle, the Celestia1 for Franck and some other stuff for Cham...

This thread developed into some kind of "artist magazine" ...not bad and quite inspiring.

Yes what about another Mini-Tutorial about your ways of implementing "designer text"...?

Yes, something like this, but Typo design is not a small topic...
I will give some tips and example of combinations, then possibilities with Gimp/Photoshop are illimited...

But the tutorial is not for tomorrow, perhaps this month...

Well, for now my last splash... no really fantastic, just for the lettering...

Fridger,

I haven't used your mars image for several reasons, but the most important one, is that the best place for the text is were you have put it so as I don't want to reapeat the same thing with only a typo change... Later perhaps...

Wow! You all have really good splash screens :) The ones I provided on the previous page come nowhere near yours. Kudos to you all! :)

You're welcome :)

Of course :)

Does it cover making splash screens in Paint shop pro? 'cause that's what I use. :)
