deep impact
I installed deep impact but I can't see the impact. I have nvidia 6800
so i should be able to see dds textures. I am doing something wrong but
I don't know what. Help

Spacetime it sounds to me like Celestia is not reading in the explosion files for some reason.you could try this
Rename DI-explosion.ssc to xplosion.ssc (NOT explosion.ssc)
Rename DI-debris.ssc to xplode.ssc (NOT explode.ssc)
put the new xplosion.ssc and xplode.ssc into DeepImpact folder (where the DeepImpact.ssc and Tempel 1.ssc are)
move all the 3ds model files from folder DeepImpact/Xplosion/models to the DeepImpact/models folder
move all the 3ds model files from folder DeepImpact/Xplode/models to the DeepImpact/models folder
move all the PNG texture files from folder DeepImpact/Xplosion/textures/medres to the DeepImpact/textures/medres folder
move all the PNG texture files from folder DeepImpact/Xplode/textures/medres to the DeepImpact/textures/medres folder
leave the XYZ file in the DeepImpact/data folder
A little bit cumbersome perhaps but it should work then,but it is important the xplosion.ssc and xplode.ssc are listed below the Tempel1.ssc in the 'DeepImpact' folder for it to work,Jestr

This is just a hunch, but I notice that you mention that you should be able to see dds textures.
The originals are all png, and I'm wondering if you have converted them to dds, in which case they will not be compatible with their respective models any more ?

Jestr, I did exactly as you said and it still does not work. Then I deleted
all of the deep impct files and reinstalled, hoping that somehow i
made a mistake the first time. it still does not work. If you have
any other ideas let me know.

Just for information, I just made a script about the Deep Impact Mission. The french version is finished, and the english one should be available very soon...

I have already uploaded the french version on the motherlode a week ago. It will be available quite soon I think. Or maybe I'll have to upload the english version before they are both released on the Motherlode scripts page...

Anyone noticing that the impact occurs at:

the text read me says it should happen at? Mine occurs on the 3rd. It's as if my version of Celestia is reading the Julian dates wrong (b/c when I plug them into a calculator, they show the impact should be occuring on 7/4 at 6 instead of 7/3 at 23:01

Some complains (well - not really - more of a observation) about the addon:
The impact occurs on something like a 'nose' of the comet. The debris ejection is projected onto a cone like object. The impact explosion is projected onto a flat billboard. Imaging we are standing in front of the comet, watching the impact probe to come in.
- If the nose point slighty downwards(-right) from your point of view, the debris ejection can be seen in all it's glory, but the explosion is somewhat twisted and leaves a hole in the middle of the debris.
- If the nose point slighty upwards(-right) from your point of view, the explosion can be seen very well, but the depris ejection is something like a weak sideview.
- If the nose points upwards even more, the explosion still looks well, but the debris seems to cut through the comets surface (some deep sort problem obviously).
To examine, just set your time scale to about 100x slower and watch from all directions.
So here are the question:
- Is it possible to make the two projections/models congruent?
- Would it look better if the explosion is projected onto a dome-like model inside the debris cone (the dome pointing towards the viewer)?
- Would it make sense to define a outer hull for the debris cone, so that it doesn't become partially invisible in sideview?

There is an easy answer to this, thanks to the fact that you have put the location of Los Angeles in your profile.
jestr has set all the times in this add-on to UTC (Universal Time) which is the same as GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).
I've no doubt that you have the time set in your installation of Celestia to your local time zone, which I think at the moment is PDT (Pacific Daylight-Saving Time).
This is currently (and will also be at the time of the impact) 7 hours behind UTC. Hence you are seeing the impact 7 hours "earlier".

I think as a default value, Celestia sets its time to the same as your computer clock.
