Hi
Forgive me if there's some information about this somewhare else,(and I'm sure that there is) but I'm following VERY specific directions, and I CANNOT get addons to work no matter how I try. Might there be some little thing that I'm not doing that someone could clear up?
So Far as I've been doing it:
Celestia
\Extras \data
\ Addons
\ the addon itself (with its own directory tree intact}
\ models
\textures
\medres ????
Or do the xyz, ssc and 3D files go into the MAIN "models, textures
\medres"
folders in Celestia? I'm really puzzled.
Absolutely nothing is working for me, and I've got to be missing something I know.
I'm Running XP Home --and I have all folders visible, since I know that XP hides them by default.
When it says to put certain kinds of files in certain locations (xyz=data, ssc=extras, 3d=models) etc. Must there be an entire directory tree of the addon inside the MAIN CELESTIA addons folder?
Maybe I'm going to the wrong place in Celestia GUI to find the addons that I've 'installed"? (for instance the starship Enterprise...)
Some help would be greatly appreciated at this point . . .
I hope that I have made myself clear so that somebody doesn't have to go through a vague description in order to tell me the answer, because I'm sure that the answer is a simple one a simple one . . .

From what I can see, you seem to be putting your add-ons inside a "data" file, which is not necessary (and will not make them work !).
Any data files put in your "Extras" directory should be within the actual add-on file that they belong to.
I hope this helps ?

TERRIER

Addons reside in /extras
/<the addon itself> may contain the following subdirs:
/data
/models
/textures
/textures may contain:
/lores
/medres
/hires
So '/data', '/models', '/textures', '/lores', '/medres'and '/hires' are somewhat reserved folder names. Putting a addon in there will result in it beeing not found.
Selden: Are these 'reserved' names yet documented as being reserved?

Maxim,
While the word "reserved" isn't used, the documentation that I wrote does say that those directories have specific uses.
See http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celest ... intro.html
This Web page is slightly out of date, since it doesn't mention that .xyz files should be put in a \data subdirectory.
