Question about coordinate systems for addon stars

Post #1by Guckytos » 16.01.2005, 13:04

HI all,

yep it's me again asking questions about coordinate systems (what else me being myself *g*).

Celestia has moved with its stars.dat from spherical to rectangular coordinates if i didn't completely read everything wrong.
Now my question as i am going to update the STC-Guide once again in the near future:
Is it also possible to use these rectangular coordinates in a STC-File to place a star and what transformations do i have to do in order to convert from RA and Dec to rectangular?
And on what is that rectangular system based?

Regards,

Guckytos

Okay i reread all the old threads talking about the change in coordinate systems. I think i have now the right equatios or the transformation from spherical to rectangular.

BUT The question remains:

Will Celestia in the future also use rectangular x,y, and z coordinates in STC-files??

Chris said something about planning to implement them as an option for STC, but i didn't hear any more about that.

So if someone could tell me yes, no, perhaps in version 15.0.1 ;) would that be really appriciated.

Regards,

Guckytos
