New Motherlode Features

Post #1by alphap1us » 15.01.2005, 20:42

Hello,
I'd like to bring some new features that hve recently been added to the motherlode to your attention. We now have comments on add-ons, ratings and screenshot submissions that can all be performed from the web. Simply click on the magnifiying glass to acces the details page for the add-on and you will see the new links and buttons. Please rate and comment on the add-ons liberally, so that newcomers can have a good idea of which items are most desirable, but be polite when you are criticizing.

In addition, we also have a system to allow add-on creators or other volunteers to edit ALL the info about the add-ons right from the web. All you need is a web browser. If you are interested in updating the info about any of the add-ons, please stay tuned for more instructions soon.

Harald Schmidt has implemented all the new features since he moved us to a PHP-based system months ago. He has also helped immeasureably by manning the motherlode inbox, while I finish up my last year at school. He's close to running the whoel site single-handedly. Thanks Harald!

Cheers,
Joe

Motherlode has become THE location for add-ons. Folks last year argued it couldn't be done ... too many add-ons ... to complex. You guys did it. :D

Thanks

Looking forward to being able to edit add-on pages by creators directly, so we don't have to bother you guys with changes.

Frank

Joe,

I've been using the new features for the past two weeks or so...

Was beginning to think that no one else even knew about them.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious, and Harald deserves the Celestian of
the Year
award as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks, Bob

Bob,

the Brain-Dead with a brain-dead avatar (he, he) seems to be one of the few who know about this new features.

Thanks for using it. Harry is already in sorrow, because not much people seem to know about it (though he announced it on the CML-Forum some time ago).

Sorry about the avatar, Ulrich... I just could not resist the
temptation to use it.

The new features are really nice though, and people should be using
them. You can praise or berate your favorite (or unfavorite) add-ons, and
you can leave comments for other users to see. These are of great
benefit, especially for someone who has never used the Celestia program
before.

Just give it some time... I'm sure that people will get used to them. Perhaps
a more-easily seen icon would help? Just a thought. The little magnifying
glasses aren't all that descriptive of the functions they produce.

How about an icon that actually says "Comments?" Maybe that would help?

Just a thought.

Thanks, as always, Bob
