If my line was saturated every second for a week, I could handle about 36GB, i.e. I'm scarily close to maxing out my connection.

Christophe, do you know anyplace that would host an official add-on repository?

What's your upload bandwidth? 512 kbps?

I see two possible solutions:
I can try and get free hosting from the company I work for, that would be shared hosting probably with limited storage but a very big pipe. I'll keep you posted on this.

Or, I've been thinking of getting my own dedicated server from Lost Oasis (warning, French ahead). That would give me a lot of space but limited bandwidth espacially with international traffic. Anybody who's experimented with an Open Brick is welcome to comment on it.

A repository of add ons would be handy, would it be completely open to all offerings? Should there be a recommendation to meet some standard specifications, eg readmes etc. to ensure that the non- computer programmers amongst us don't get in a tangle. Or, would it be 'caveat emptor'(except you dont buy it) I quite like the hunting down of new add ons myself, I tend to look at them a bit and then move on, it's a bit of a collector thing, don't make it too easy! It gladdens the heart to see the commitment to high standards of works and ethics demonstrated on this site. The (mostly) patient responses to newbies and guests, and toleration of each others differences and opinions is what makes for a great forum. If people get into arguing about the interpretation of which smiley has been used ( I have seen this),and other inanities,we might as well all hang up our mice and go and watch Sky instead (so say I),

Funny how a post about add ons doesn't offer any usefull information for the newbie user or anyone else who would like some add-ons.

I'm not sure why "news-" posted to this ancient thread, but "The Celestia Motherlode" is now available at http://celestiamotherlode.net/. It's hoped that it will become the primary download server for Celestia Addons. The Motherlode is hosted by http://ibiblio.org/ "The public's library and digital archive."
