Am I going nutz or what ? ,,,
The Torben ?. Mogensen earthlike texture generator that JohnVV pointed us towards in the other thread produces BMPs that view ok in most of my image viewers ( like Irfanview, MSpaint, imageN, ImageForge etc&etc) but not in TheGimp nor, more importantly, in a BorlandC++Builder package wot I am trying to make ( I got fed up with the DOS interface that planet.c/exe needs,, [however did we put up with DOS for all those years ! lol ] )
so, the upshot is: I have a WindowsGUIwrapper that will execute the planet generator and file the resulting BMP but it cant view that bmp ( but it can if I load it into Irfanview and resave as a BMP !) ,,, arghh !
Has anyone viewed its output bmp files in the Gimp ? Is it me, my compiled version, or wot but my Gimp (1.2.3 for Windows) reports unable to read the header info
did that make sense?! its 2:30am local and I am about to give up :-!)

The Mogensen earth-like texture generator
So I guess that there are no Gimp users out there who are using Torben's Planet map maker ? !
So I dont suppose anyone is interested that I have now worked up a patch for the planet.c, recompiled, and now have an exe that will write Gimp (and BorlandVCL library) compatible BMPs.
I have offered the patch to Torben and he is evaluating it.
If anyone wants the info please wave a hand
Malcolm.
PS It turns out that it was a known bug (to both linux and windows gimps) that he had not got round to investigating.
