Hello , I'm messing about with fictional star systems and am using the star catalog addon provided by Pascal Hartmann but I'm sure the answer to my boggle goes for any stars.dat file for use in celestia.
How do I rename stars not found in the "starnames.dat" file?
I'm guessing the answer lies within those star numbers but how do I get the star number for say, HD 209742 out of tha dat file.
Heres what I've been up to in the meantime

Why dont you look up the position of the closest real star to where you want and create an STC file for the new(fictional star) with the same RA and Dec coordinates but change the distance by a couple of lightyears. This makes it easier then if you want to make it available to others who do not have the correct version of stars.dat installed.Just a thought ,Jestr
Hmmm, its possibilty but its a bit messy though.
I'm sure there is a more straight forward way.
On a more positive note I found out that if you add a star to the list in the Celestia CFG file then it will show up amongst the labeled stars. Handy if you want a star you've been working up to be easily found.
