Help! I can't run celx

Post #1by ricierijr » 06.07.2004, 21:58

Please. I'm having a lot of troubles to run a celx script. I am new to Celestia and I think it's amazing. It's one the most interesting softwares I have seen. I have no problem running cel scripts, but i got error messages when I use the same method (files-open). Is there a right way of running? Is there any issue with my video boarc? Do I have to download any tool for running them?
I have the latest version of Celestia.
Please, forgive me if my request is too stupid, or already replied, I am a newbie (but very interrested and longing for contribute). I couldn't find any information clear enough neither in the net nor in the forum.
Thanks very much for your attention.

ricierijr,

Unfortunately, saying you have the most recent version of Celestia doesn't tell us anything: there are three most recent versions:

1. There is the most recent "stable" release, v1.3.1-1, released in January and hosted at SourceForge.
2. There is the most recent publicly available prerelease for Windows, v1.3.2-pre8, released in late May. See the thread http://www.shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5072 to find out how to download it.
and
3. There is the very most recent version which you build yourself from source code downloaded from SourceForge's CVS tree.

In order for the Lua command "file open" to work today, you need #3: support for file I/O wasn't added until early June. I suspect it'll be included in the next prerelease.

Added later:
but I just realized that you mean Celestia's file open command, not Lua's

You also need to specify what type of computer you have. I suspect you have a Mac.

Lua works on a PC under Windows and Linux, but does not yet work on a Mac, unless either you select option #3 or you run the next Windows prerelease version of Celestia in a PC emulator.

Sorry.

It's the version 1.3.1 released in January and hosted in SourceForge. My computer is a PC running win98.
I'm dowloading the version from the url that you posted. I'll try it!!!

That's it. I downloaded and worked quite well!!!
Maybe it would be useful to write in the home page of shatters.net that this version is able to run celx. The stuff isn't clear from the start.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! :D :D :D
