CM Draconis

Post #1by ajtribick » 12.10.2003, 21:45

1. Is CM Draconis included in the Hipparcos catalogue, and if so, what is its number?

2. Is CM Draconis present in the stars.dat file included with 1.3.0 or 1.3.1pre11? If not, can I get an add-on with the data for this star system?

3. Would I be able to define a planetary system with the planets orbiting the A-B barycentre rather than just one of the components?

Thanks,

Chaos Syndrome.

CM Dra has no Hipparcos number, and therefore doesn't appear in stars.dat.
To create an orbiting binary system in Celestia at present, you need to create one star as an emissive planet in orbit around the other. No reason you couldn't also place an additional invisible object in orbit around the primary, synched with the secondary and placed at the appropriate barycentre position between the two bodies, and then put planets in orbit around this barycentre with orbital radii extending out beyond the two stars. I have absolutely no idea how Celestia would respond to such an unusual orbit definition, but it would certainly be fun to see what it looked like. :)
