Jim,

Any ideas why your textures have so much better resolution compared to the BlueMarble texture? Here is your level6 tiles for the Falklands/Malvinas islands downscaled to a level5 tile compared with my level5 tile. The difference is remarkable.

Does this mean the 42k BlueMarble data isn't really anywhere near 42k. I thought .tif is always lossless. I just cannot understand the difference. I've tested and the scaling from 42k to 32k is not the problem.

It may be necesarry to include replacements tiles for the effected level5 tiles with these addons to prevent the obvious change in resolutions. Or even include replacements as far as level2 in order to prevent the noticible change in colors. I presume the color shift is largely due to differences between seasons.

Hi all,

Good news, the Florida addon is ready :D (download from my web site).

I guess Florida has a strong mosquito problem. :?:
Image

Can somewhere tell me if this marshy area with many tiny lakes is correct and how is it called?
Image

Ok here is the Kennedy space center in 1024k (level10 or 40 meter resolution). :D
But this is only an preview!. Celestia 1.3.1pre9/10 can't display more than level 8. But Chris work on this restriction. The Addon includes already this high level tiles but deactivated. Sure I can build the level8 tile in 2k size (what I did for my shot) but for resource resons and with the knowledge that later Celestia versions supports this tiles ...

ElPelado,
I will only use legal image matieral and to use textures from a commercial software sounds not very legal.

Walton,
I know this problem. I think the BlueMarble maker was not very carfull by colouring the water blue. This caused some ugly black areas at the coast line.

I agree with you.

Yes and it's also cause by the differnt image matierial. I'm not really happy with the colours of BlueMarble but I try to addapt the colours of my textures as good as possible. You would be really suprised how the original Florida picture looks.

Jim,
The area looks like it is just South of Lake Okeechobee. If that is the case, then that is the Everglades aka "sea of grass"

Hope this helps

Brilliant work Jens!

I've made a fix to Celestia that enables texture levels up to 10 (that's 11 levels, including 0). It turns out that there was a bug which made it more work than I thought it would be. I'll have a new version of Celestia with this and some other fixes ready today, so everyone will be able to try zooming into KSC themselves.

I'll try & fix up my KSC model this weekend so- it should fit in very well with this now!

Hi Kendrix amd ElPelado,

my image source is:
http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/browse.html
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsro ... index.php3

Use the search funktion on this sites and you will found what you want (if it's available). There are at least 2 day images and one night image of Paris.
But at the moment it seams that this server is down :(.

Bye Jens

PS: Chris, nice shots but you are useing my spec tiles?

I'm convinced now about vitual textures however...your work on this has been just amazing!

Regards...bh.

Hi all,

There was a bug with my level9 and level10 tiles. I have it now eliminated. For those who have already downloaded the addon you can correct this by renameing this files (earth and earth-spec):
level9:
tx_242_174.dds -> tx_282_174.dds
tx_242_175.dds -> tx_282_175.dds
level10:
tx_484_349.dds -> tx_564_349.dds
tx_484_350.dds -> tx_564_350.dds
tx_484_349.dds -> tx_564_349.dds
tx_484_350.dds -> tx_564_350.dds

Sorry this happens if things are not tested.

bh wrote:Jens...bh here. 32k spec texture...where is it,
There is at the moment no 32k spec texture avvailable. See http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3374

The installation is the same like for the surface tiles. You need a base virtual specular texture with 512 tile size and DDS format! I think John Van Vliet has build one in PNG format. Convert the tiles to DDS. I use at the moment my old 8k spec map but this has some bugs at the poles so I will not upload it.
