I found the answer - it has to do with the control v command. Is there any way to make a different vertex rendering setting the default when Celestia starts up?

If you haven't already, you should consider upgrading your graphics drivers to either 44.03 or 43.45 from the Nvidia Web site. Some of the 3rd party graphics vendors have even more recent drivers for their cards. (Asus claims to have 44.71, but the Web pages were unreachable when I tried to get them yesterday.)
