I use stars as points, but I agree with Selden. And the Chris proposal is fantastic. This feature would be very very nice .
I should call it schematic view or someting like this. Because it is not a realistic visualization but instead something that should help in understanding astronomy. Would be nice if the feature should be splitted in two types of visualizations: one that gives precedence for the apparent magnitude and one for the absolute magnitude.
Using this "schematic view", looking at sun from very far distance (e.g. 20-50 light years) should give to the observer a precise idea of the stellar neighborhoods around our system. Actually it is impossibile because of faintness of stars.
I have a lot of other ideas about this argument (schematic view), but I want to collect and present them organically.
I will create soon a new group of feature requests on my website.
Bye - Paolo

I have installed the last 1.3.1 pre6 prerelease, and the option
"Stars like points"
is no more available.
This is due to the new system shown by Chris, or a bug?
Thank you
Andrea

Selden, sorry for my missed check on the Render Menu, but I was so used to the View Menu that ....
Thank you very much .
