3D mesh problem

Celestia doesn't seem to do much smooth shading for Nebula objects. The only way to make an object look smooth is to use more, smaller facets.
Also, Celestia doesn't do any depth sorting of the facets of Nebula models. As best I can tell, they're drawn in the order that they're encountered in the 3DS model file. As a result, the models only look right from one direction. In most directions, for example, the far side of the galaxy will be drawn on top of (and seem to be in front of) the central bulge.
It'd be nice if depth sorting worked.
