CYGNSS (2022)

Post #1801by DaveBowman2001 » 20.03.2022, 13:38

The Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) is a series of eight Earth science satellites aiming to improve hurricane forecasting by better understanding the interactions between the sea and the air near the core of a storm. This $ 152 million mission was launched in a single Pegasus-XL rocket in 2016-Dec-15, and is actively continuing its operations as of 2022.

Orbital data for all eight satellites were obtained from CelesTrak

This addon serves as a (second) update to Tiangong 1 and 2, which is now entirely dependent to Sirius_Alpha's Tiangong Space Station to allow suntracking of the solar panels

the 42nd and 43rd launches of the Starlink satellites by SpaceX took place on March 9 and 19, 2022. Here are the files relating to these launches. The Oneweb constellation has fallen behind following the withdrawal of Roscosmos as a launcher supplier. Future Oneweb launches will be handled by SpaceX.

@DaveBowman2001 Awesome add-on!.

It would be cool to have the docking-undocking operations animated, just like in the Tiangong Space Station addon made by Sirius_Alpha, although I understand that it's still too complex.

A doubt. Is it necessary to download the Space Shuttle addon, as you indicated in the December 24 post, or is it now included and not necessary?

Thank you

No, I don't plan to animate the docking processes, simply because too many events have already happened on the station in the past 24 years

Right now, the Space Shuttle 2021 addon would conflict with the new ISS addon. Currently working on an update that will also make it compatible with mobile, but it will take time. Because of this, temporarily the ISS has its own version of the Shuttle addon

I redid the SPACEBEE constellation files - SPACEBEE NZ from Swarm Technologies. There were errors in the launch numbering and I was able to get flight data from Spacebee-8 and 9 (3rd launch). In addition I completed with the 8th and 9th launches.

For those who had installed the first version (viewtopic.php?p=153276#p153276), the best is to uninstall it and put this one in its place. The changes are located in the sscs and in the vidiba files.

Starlink 38th launch :

I found on the site https://orbit.ing-now.com/ the TLE data of Starlink A, B, C, D, L, Q of the launch of March 3, 2022 and which had suffered a magnetic storm causing the loss of these satellites in the days that followed. The data on this site also provides their original numbering in the constellation but for B and C the number has been reassigned to E and F.
I integrated this data into the ssc of the 38th launch; it is this new file that I propose to you today. Those who want to use the date of destruction, you must reactivate the Ending parameter by removing the # character

SpaceBee:
"SpaceBee 128-139 launch 10.SSC" contains the orbital data from the 10th launch of 01-04-2022
"SpaceBee 112-126 launch 9.SSC" must be changed because it is missing SPACEBEE-115 123 124 and 127
So I provide a new "Spacebee 112-127 Launch 9.SSC" file that includes them. This replace "SpaceBee 112-126 launch 9.SSC"
I removed launches 5, 8 and 9, NZ satellittes that now have their own files

SpaceBee New Zeeland:
Having not found the differences in NZ satellites, I decided to separate SpaceBee and SpaceBeeNz files
"SpaceBeeNz 1-6 launch 5.SSC" Launch of this variant of the satellite on 20-11-2020 at 02:20:01
"SpaceBeeNz 7-10 launch 8.SSC" Launch of this variant of the satellite on 30-06-2021 at 19:31:00
"SpaceBeeNz 11-14 launch 9.SSC" Launch of this variant of the satellite on 15-03-2022 at 16:22:00
Vidiba lists are also separate and provided

Update to the Venera Landers (9-14) addon. Visual defects have been fixed

Thinking of updating the orbiter portions next, as well as the flyby portions (11 to 14) which share the same design as the orbiters of 9 and 10

The 44th Starlink launch on 2022-04-21 has been uploaded to celestrak. So I offer it to you here.
I discovered an input error in the 39th launch. The STARLINK 2022-016C satellite was written STARLINK 2020-016C. I dragged the corrected ssc file into the archive as well as the corresponding lua table

Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE)

Post #1816by DaveBowman2001 » 04.05.2022, 04:21

The Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE) spacecraft is a future European planetary flagship mission that is currently in development and scheduled for launch on an Ariane 5 rocket by April 2023. Born out of the former Jupiter Ganymede Orbiter concept, it will study three of the Galilean satellites from 2031 to 2034 (Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto) before entering orbit around Ganymede by 2035. It will complement NASA's Europa Clipper, which is also scheduled to study the Jovian system at the same time period, thereby fulfilling the objectives first proposed on the cancelled NASA/ESA mission in 2009 called the Europa-Jupiter System Mission

JUICE's XYZV trajectory from JPL HORIZONS. Special thanks to pedro_jg for converting the model (by ESA) into CMOD a year prior

SPECIAL NOTE:
A separate ZIP file contains XYZV trajectory corrections for all Galilean satellites from 1995 to 2035 to provide greater accuracy for encounters not just for JUICE, but also for Galileo, Juno, and Europa Clipper because at multiple occasions, the spacecrafts collide with them especially Ganymede and Callisto

NOTE (221115): This addon is now obsolete. The latest versions are available on Page 97 and the Galilean HORIZONS page

Galileo Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)

Post #1817by DaveBowman2001 » 04.05.2022, 06:39

The Galileo Navigational Satellite System (GNSS) is the European equivalent to the American Global Positioning System (GPS). Its constellation of 28 satellites (22 active, 6 derelict) provide Europe with high-precision geodesic navigation without relying much on GPS and GLONASS satellites. First launch occurred in December 2005.

Not to be confused with NASA's Galileo mission that studied Jupiter and its moons from 1995 to 2003

@DaveBowman2001 Can you provide an SSC where the JUICE mission ends in October 2035? In this case, until the end of the trajectory xyzv. I believe it is unlikely that the JUICE mission will be extended further because by then it will be out of propellant and will collided on Ganymede. And also for the reason that JUICE keeps appearing eternally around Ganymede after 2035 in Celestia.

This is intentional. I am aware that the European Space Agency intended to crash JUICE onto Ganymede at the end of its mission by October 2035. However the very last state vector from HORIZONS doesn't show the spacecraft crash onto the aforementioned moon, it left the possibility of a mission extension quite open.

Yes, the main factor for its ultimate fate would be of course the propellant it has, but if it ends up having more propellant at that date than expected, JUICE might end up in a similar situation like the JWST where it had surplus fuel due to its highly accurate-than-expected maneuvers en route to its destination at Sun-Earth L2.

Until HORIZONS updated their database to the point it shows the spacecraft deorbiting onto Ganymede, JUICE will remain on its current condition in Celestia
