celestia image export
Hey everyone, I've recently been looking at a lot of screen shots taken by people from celestia, and I notice that when in jpg htey always seem to get a weird box effect where like most of the top left corner is ok, but the rest is all weird, or a large section across the bottom is messed up, and I was wondering, could you maybe just make celestia be able to export bmp or something else as well as jpg?

Hi,
I save my screen shots always with the PNG format and then I use Photoshop to save the pictures to the web friendly JPG format. Photoshop has nice optimization funtions for JPG's an can produce small files with a good quality.
Don't make this shit like john Van Vliet and use the PNG format everywhere and everytime. Especially don't use PNG to post screen shots in this forum.
Bye Jens

What am I doing? Ah, nothing much. Just laying on my bed, watching the stars, and sky, and keep asking myself: 'Where the Hell is my Roof?'.

I guess this problem is independent of the *.jpg format. If there is part of another window overlapping the Celestia window while you grab the image, you get nasty white dots on both *.jpg and *.png images wherever the overlapping window was located.
If you take care that there is nothing in the way while you are grabbing, the *.jpg images look quite acceptable to me.

Thats why whenever I do a screen capture I drag the popup window to a lower corner of the main part of the Celeatia window. That is why most of my screencaps are clear of the nasty dots or the distortions.
I am officially a retired member.
I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.
Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it
Thanks for your understanding.

For (the few) Mac-users I recommend Graphic Converter. Supports 175 import and 75 export formats (and batch-conversions from one to the other). Plus it adds the ability to do some basic photoshop type Image manipulation (It even supports older PS plug-inns). It comes preloaded with new Macs, otherwise it's shareware.

edit: on-topic: Of course on the Mac you make perfect .tiff screenshots with the built-inn grab application.
