Sometimes, the antivirus overreacts. My antivirus even considered my Celestia 1.6.1 as having a virus, even though I downloaded it the right way. For the record, the antivirus in question is ByteFence, though I have Avira as well

Especially low grade antivirus like AVG and Avast which are hated by the antivirus community due to their low detection rates, overuse of resources, and their intrusiveness. This is why I prefer Symantec and Kapersky.

Maybe the antivirus conversation should be moved to a different topic.

Don't worry. This ain't the Discord Server. Besides, this topic started when John71 complained about his antivirus detecting something in the latest Celestia 1.7.0 snapshot. And since Onetwothree stated that his snapshot has no viruses, then of course the fault belongs to whatever antivirus John71 is using

As far as AV products go, caveat emptor, they all have blind spots.
False positives are very common with home compiled software, especially when it is modded or customized.
That is because AVs not only do a binary scan, but a behavioral one as well.
Either through a VM or sandbox short run, or more commonly, just looking at its import/export table.
Anything outside of the app like behavior of things in a walled garden is viewed with suspicion.
Adaptive or configurable programs are always viewed with suspicion, as are most self contained things.
Developing stuff yourself instead of using preexisting libraries is another way to gather false positives.
Add scripting, and the AV crowd has a party, at your programs expense.
Not only not surprised it happened, but that it doesn't happen more.
Janus.

Well, I used this online antivirus engine.
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload
I think if we share a file and we have an antivirus alert we should inform the community.
This is the first time I got an alert in years.
Added after 6 minutes 34 seconds:
Jiangmin antivirus produced false alarms in the past, so it is probably not an infected file.

Either way, those kind of Antiviruses are annoying to some extent. The ByteFence antivirus I mentioned earlier often closes my Celestia 1.6.1, to the point I had to list it as part of the whitelist so as to prevent the antivirus from doing the same thing again.

It's because most AV problems come from free to use AVs like AVG and Avast that in them selves are viruses. AVs that cost money are better to use. The only free AV that is actually worth while using is Kapersky Free.

Is there any plan to change Makemake's surface color to its know reddish-brown hue.

Makemake's color is already quite accurate. Makemake's albedo is quite high, (0.81).Is there any plan to change Makemake's surface color to its know reddish-brown hue.
Realistic colors for TNOs can be found on this: https://www.deviantart.com/fargetanik/art/Transne ... ects-Size-comparison-611679543

Nice to see some progress on Celestia!
I gotta wonder tho, from what I can tell the atmosphere rendering has been improved, but the current complete installation from this thread does not display many major solar system objects? The data files look fine and the object is known to Celestia but it appears transparent? Seems to affect all major moons and Pluto from a quick view. The bugs described above seem similar but not quite what I'm experiencing. This also seems to affect versions of Celesita posted earlier in jan.
Would be nice if someone can point me to the latest version that loads these object but has the improved atmosphere render. Also, are there 2 separate versions now, one with the improved solar system browser and one with fading orbits?

I have to agree. Saturn, for one, does not display its photogenic rings in 1.7.0. Doesn't it just look like an old man stripped of his golden white hair and made bald?

It is settled then. Before 1.7.0 can be fully released, it has to not just add more stuff but also restore stuff missing from certain objects in Celestia as well

What objects? What your display preferences are?

What 2 versions are you talking about?

Check your preferences. Rings can be enabled and disabled.
