Brand new Ulysses Solar polar probe model(s)!

Post #1by JackHiggins » 29.04.2003, 19:39

Hey all

I've modelled the Ulysses solar polar probe- and for this craft there are 2 versions. In real life, it has two ~35m booms extending from the two sides of the craft, and two other smaller ones from the rear and bottom.
These mean that you can't really zoom in close to see the detail, so i've made another model with just the main spacecraft bus, and no booms. Here are some screenshots:

and here are 2 zoomed out screenshots showing the model with booms installed:

Sure you can. Just specify a negative altitude in the GoTo menu.

Ah i know that of course!! I just thought it'd be handy to be able to zoom in close to the craft without having to use the Goto option! Also, I find that sometimes when you zoom in at a negative altitude, objects in the mesh appear in front of each other when they shouldn't, & other strange things..

Jack, it's wonderful, as usual!
Your work makes me wish to start studying modelling, just to try myself to do something of this kind.
Perhaps, when I'll retire...
Anyhow, thank you very much for your results.

Jack...bloody great model...I don't have the booms though. I've downloaded both versions and they're the same model. I've probably ***ed up on this.

The foil effect is great. I love the esa logo too. 'bout time us Europeans got in on this one. (Bloody Yanks)...only joking.

No political replys please (I know how jumpy you guys are).

Regards to all...bh.

Thanks everybody!!

APOLOGIES everybody!!

Once again, I forgot to check my links before uploading... The link to the full model now works. (All a matter of a "_full" in the html...)

Now you can try out both models- sorry again for the mistake!!

I have exams in 3 weeks, so i'll have to cut back on my celestia activities for a bit.. After that it's all free time though, so i'll have a go at Magellan if I can find some good diagrams of it in the meantime!
