Example : Io is at more 421,000 km and the moon is very volcanic because too near of Jupiter...

Don't forget Jupiter is 5 times further from the sun than Earth, so Hera needs the heat. ;)

293644.2907 Kilometers, with an orbital period of slightly more than 24 and a half hours.

For me, I think orbital periods under 24 hours generally tend to be inside the Roche limit, so I like to use that as a rule of thumb when placing large moons around gas giants.

And as I mentioned previously, I meticulously adjusted the orbits of the Galilean moons to make room for Hera. :)

Was Orion designed to use nuclear detonations for propulsion? Or am I thinking about Daedalus?

Both spacecraft designs use nuclear explosions behind a pusher plate. Orion would have used larger fission pulse units for larger spacecraft designs. Daedelus would have used a stream of deuterium/helium-3 pellets.

and for the cost of a few tactical nuks you can put something like the USS Nimitz in orbit

in this case BIGGER and heaver IS BETTER

the orbit that is STARTING today
so this is a NEW pass by Cassini of Titan .
like the Dione occultation of the star Spica on the 23'd

So John, you just put down a bump/normal map and then color the sphere as your "texture"?

Here's some systems I'm working on...a system near Nunki, and a rework of the Tegmine system...a more sublime change of pace from the deluge of Star Trek stuff. (No offense...it's been all a bit too much of it. I would like to see what work others have done.)

I got Thorvald's Saturn texture package from the Motherlode, which itself is nice, but I figured I'd try my favorite G'Micky Mouse magic tricks on it, and and I thought the results came out nice and pretty. :)

Anyways, almost precisely a year ago, I posted this bug report, where it was discovered that moons of moons can't cast shadows on their parent object. Although, the other object orbiting the Barycenter, in this case, Belle Hades' second moon Tartarus, could still cast shadows.

Fast forward to this week. In preparation for a video to upload to YouTube, I used reference frames to re-center the default Earth into orbit around a fictitious gas giant. I wound up finding out that Earth failed to cast a shadow on the parent gas giant. Somehow, it dawned on me that the ability or inability to cast eclipse shadows can be transferred when re-centering objects using reference frames.

See where I'm getting at? :P

What I did was change Lethe's parent directory from Belle Hades to the barycenter/reference point itself, and then use a reference frame to re-center Lethe back to Belle Hades, and lo and behold, Lethe's eclipse shadows returned! :D

Yes, the faint shadow of Lethe blocking the second sun is there too, immediately to the left of the more prominent shadow. Shortly after posting the screenshot elsewhere on the internet, I noticed I forgot to align Lethe's body axes with the new trick, so I copied the reference frame's properties to a bodyframe reference frame and it aligned perfectly, no heavy number crunching needed. :D
