Hello, I need some help with creating of an xyz file.
I want to create an xyz file of a spacecraft that is going to launch from Earth to Mars sometime in 2024
Landing site on Mars is Valles Marineris, I will soon post a picture of the exact location
If someone can help me, I will appreciate it
Thank you

Seriously, can someone help me with creating a xyz file?
Or just say me how I doing it?

Re: Help with creating of xyz file
Generating accurate xyz trajectories which include both launch and landing is very difficult. The interplanetary portion is the easiest, but even that can be hard to generate if you want it to be correct -- the orbits of the planets are not circular and are tilted with respect to one another. The launch and landing are much more difficult. Software which can calculate them is considered "munitions" (since it can be used to calculate missile trajectories), is covered by ITAR, and is not publicly available.
JAQAR's SwingBy Calculator can be used to generate xyzv trajectories for the interplanetary portion of the trip. A free version used to be readily available on their Web site, but most of the site evaporated when JAQAR was bought out by another company. A copy seems to be available from Software Informer at
http://swing-by-calculator.software.informer.com/
JPL's Horizons ephemeris site can provide interplanetary xyz trajectories for some existing and historical space probes. Its Web interface is available at
http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/?horizons
A sample template for using Horizon's email batch interface to generate xyz information is available at
http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celest ... mplate.txt

Re: Help with creating of xyz file
Okay, here's more information
Mission Type: Manned mission
Launch date: 11th of december 2024
Launch site: Kennedy Space Center
Mission duration: 3 months
Arriving Mars: Around March-April 2025
Number of crews: 6
Mission duration(on Mars): ca. 2 Earth years
Backwards to Earth: Around January 2027(landing in Atlantic Ocean)
The mission:
When the crew arriving on Mars, on Valles Marineris, they're gonna be on Mars to look after if it exist water on Mars. They're gonna send a mirror outside the planet and send reflection from the Sun to Mars. This will be the first step to terraform Mars.
I'm gonna tell about a new mission too, when between and after the terraforming of Mars is finished, that will be around in the 2030s

Re: Help with creating of xyz file
Hi Kristoffer,
a 3-month journey time to Mars is going to cost a LOT of extra dV compared to a more efficient Hohmann style transfer.
Why not use Orbiter to plan/fly your mission? It's what Orbiter is good at
http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/
You can even record your launch/cruise/landing .xyzv using a utility I made for this purpose (Orb2Cel MFD).
Have fun!

I've used Orbiter Space Simulator before, but later it wouldn't start, why?

Re: Help with creating of xyz file
You'll have to discuss that failure on the Orbiter forum. They'll need you to provide details about the symptoms, though. "Wouldn't start" is just too vague.
