Zeta Reticuli . . .

Post #1by Gojira2006 » 02.11.2010, 19:33

:? Why, do you imagine, would Celestia 1.6 lockup & shutdown when I try to go to either of the Zeta Reticuli systems . . . ? :x This does not occur in Celestia 1.3.2 . . . :?:

Which operating system are you using?
Do you have any add-ons installed, and have you made any modifications to Celestia's datafiles?

:) Windows XP - with add-ons . . . It doesn't happen with Celestia 1.3.2, but it does occur with 1.6 . . . I didn't touch the data files with 1.6, or 1.3.2, for that matter . . . :?:

If you try removing the add-ons, does that prevent the crashes? If so, try putting them back one at a time to see which add-on is causing the issue.

:) I completely removed Celestia, re-installed the 1.6 version, then added only Zeta Reticuli, & - it crashed & shut down . . . 8O

If it is this add-on you are talking about, it may be that your graphics card is not sufficiently powerful to handle the add-on. One thing to test is whether it works with all render paths. Try changing render path (CTRL+V) before going to Zeta Ret.

:) If you mean just do CTRL+V, & then go to Zeta Reticuli, it didn't work . . . 8O If it was my graphics card, then it should do it when I try to go to Zeta Recticuli in Celestia 1.3.2, as well, I would think . . . :(

Try CTRL+V several times to cycle through the various options.

Also try turning off various rendering options (e.g. atmospheres, ring shadows, cloud shadows).

Unfortunately I do not have a copy of this add-on myself so can't do much testing on my side.

:) Going through the various options with CTRL+V depressed seems to work - but so did removing a data folder with .xyz files . . . That is, doing both independently of each other allowed HIP 15330 (I'm getting tired of typing the other designation  ) to come up . . . :D I have no idea what the heck .xyz files are . . .

xyz are time stamps relevant to the SampledTrajectory SSC's directive. It's like a "morph" orbit.

I remember this addon crashed on me too. I think to fix I removed a folder in it labeled data. It was the files in that folder that made it crash.

:) That was one of the fixes that worked for me, too . . . It was a data folder in a folder named Zet_ships - when it was removed, I was able to get to HIP 15330 . . . 8) When I restored it, & tried ajtribick's fix, that worked too . . .
