Interesting rock formations.

I seen this alien landscape in a movie and was thrilled by the rock formations or trees maybe? I think this would make a good addon for Celestia and was wondering if anybody had some tips or advice on creating this. As of now all of the landscapes I make for Celestia are created with Terranim8or which randomally generates hills, mountains etc.

I would think an alien version of trees would be a better explanation. Rock formations like that shouldn't last long.
Current Setup:
Windows 7 64 bit. Celestia 1.6.0.
AMD Athlon Processor, 1.6 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

The 5.5 version is FREE.

They should be made with the fractal erosion and smoothing of the terrains.
Oh thank you! I've been trying Bryce today and it's perfect. :D

An interesting free, multiplatform software with which can be achieved such vegetation landscapes (or whatelse similar) is here: http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/~luft/ivy_generator/#download. This software is perfect for alien vegetation crashlanding sites or "Pandorum" world-alike (with different leaf textures, easy to built in 2d softwares).

I haven't got the hang of the render settings yet, my renders are coming out a bit noisy, I think I prefer the speed and cleanness of the Bryce renders. Although i think Vue tends to be a bit more realistic, clouds, rays, water etc. Render times are a drag however!

:o Wow - that's really pretty . . . ! 8) I agree with you about the renders - I get Cornucopia's newsletter, & the renders that are featured are fabulous . . . ! :) What gives me fits with Vue is the blasted workspace - it's much too cluttered . . . :x If I want clutter, I'll go use Poser . . . !

I love it though I have yet to figure out how to fit the terrain into the planet seamlessly like Runar Thorvaldsen does.

Yes... I'm also using the free version which has limitations built in.

Here's a recent Bryce render (I know... it looks familiar). It's much cleaner...

I'll prob stick with Bryce. Oops... sorry Reiko... I haven't tried it for planetary mapping, I'm Earth bound these days, still trying to sort out the shuttle.

:) I like the streak effects in the sky, there, bh . . . ! 8) I use Bryce primarily for creating backgrounds - this is a mixture of Bryce, Poser & lots of Photoshop (thank goodness for Photoshop) -

The Doctor # 10.jpg

If I had tried to do this solely in Bryce, it would probably still be rendering, a year later . . .
