I confirm.

Is this anything special (as in, a feature of a new version of Celestia)? Or is it just the extended database off the motherlode?
Current Setup:

I suspect this may be using new atmosphere rendering code which improves display of stars from Earth's surface. (Just a guess based on recent posts in other threads)

The new atmosphere rendering is enabled in this screenshot. But, the bigger difference in the appearance of stars is some new shader based code to draw stars. I'm writing a post about it in the dev forum now.

After exploring the eclipse function, I searched to find a triple eclipse on Jupiter and finally found one. The eclipses take place on October 12,2013. The moons are Io, Europa and Callisto. Now I wonder if I can find a quadruple eclipse?

I am using John van Vliet's great 2K/4K Jupiter textures.

Not in the Jovian system.

The orbits of Io, Europa, and Ganymede are in a Laplace resonance, with periods in the ration 1:2:4. Their particular configuration is such that the three moons will never fall in a line on the same side of Jupiter, though this isn't the case with all systems in a Laplace resonance. See this article for information on the three known planets orbiting Gliese 876's, which are thought to also be in 1:2:4 resonance:

John,

without detailed info about what new data went into that image, it's hard to make any serious comments. From UMSF it seems you are playing with a combination of radar and normal imaging data. This is known to be pretty much ambiguous, when it comes to interpreting what real features the resulting map is supposed to show..

Just a test to see what an Alderson Disk might look like. As this isn't a model, I couldn't figure out how to texture the Disk. :?:

Celestia's rings are specialized. They use only the first line of the associated texture file and rotate it around the planet as if it were a spoke sticking out. An opaque spot at the end of the texture image is drawn as an opaque circle at the outermost radius of the ring. Examine the definition of Saturn's rings for an example. If you want any other surface texture projection, you'll have to make a model.

Well here is another updated image of what I called the movie planet, yeah, yeah, its Polyphemus and yes I am still working on it. It turned out the request to stop my AVATAR textures was bogus, it did not come from the original texture artist at all, but some one else that simply did not want me working on them. Go figure.

Click the pic for the full 1920x1080 version.

I still have some adjusting to do but I think this is getting very close. I am also still working on Pandora and the other moons. I am also working on the whole system using information from both the AVATAR - An Activist Survival Guide and the AVATAR games Pandorpedia.

Everyone will have to see what all I can up with. I know there are a few AVATAR add-ons out there but none of them are close to the information I have gleaned from both the book and the game. One of the add-ons over at the Celestia Motherload has Pandora set as the 12th moon, this is wrong as movie cannon has it as the 5th moon of Polyphemus and the 6th moon is also fully habitable with oceans and all the like that Pandora has. There is also mention that several of the moons have bodies of surface water but no life on them.

Keep an eye out for a add-on thread to get started on this soon.

Don. Edwards

P.S.

The more i mess with this add-on the more I am seeing a bit om my HD28185 system in it. Hmmm, could it have been any inspiration? Nah, they would never do that would they!
I am officially a retired member.
I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

I can't wait to see the final product. :blue:

What are the radii you are using for Polyphemus and Pandora? I know Polyphemus is supposed to be about the size of Saturn but what about Pandora?
