Hey Trekkers!
Sorry the intrusion, but I should like to know how a trekker take into consideration the (old) S.F. movie The Forbidden Planet...

Re: Star Trek addons by fungun
This is from Memory-Alpha the canon Star Trek Wiki-
I often thought it would have been cool to find ruins of that earlier time in one of the episodes.
Tim
Altair IV is the fourth planet in the Altair system, orbiting the star named Altair. It is home to a Federation population.
Darien Wallace was born on this planet. (TNG: "Eye of the Beholder")
In 2371, a resident of this world, one Doctor Henri Roget of the Central Hospital of Altair IV, was awarded the prestigious Carrington Award for his work in the field of medicine. (DS9: "Prophet Motive")
It was never directly referred to as a Federation world. Altair IV was the alien world featured in the film Forbidden Planet.
In the novel The Romulan War - Beneath the Raptor's Wing, an Earth colony had been settled on Altair IV, and narrowly avoided destruction by Romulan weapons.

Eh, Eh! The movie poster is simply beautiful. IMHO, the Krell's "Great Machine" (a cube!) is a mix of the Borg's Cube (as an "assimilating machine") and of the Death Star (vertical views).
Never at rest.

That movie had a lot of influence on Star Trek. You'll notice the way Star Trek uses "technobabble" and the quasi-military feel of Starfleet is nearly identical to that of Forbidden Planet.Fenerit wrote:Hey Trekkers!

Also in the Romulan War book, ruins of an ancient and mysterious civilization were mentioned being on Altair IV.

And the deceleration chambers' effect is similar to the teletransport...

New addon at the ML
http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/show_addon_details.php?addon_id=1461
This addon replaces the "Star Trek in Earth Orbit", and the "Jupiter Station" addons.
Added the new addon, "Copernicus Ship Yard" orbiting the Moon.
Thanks,

Re: Star Trek addons by fungun
How I get the models is a complicated process.
1. Do a search for them. (ok that part isn't so hard)
2. Once you find the model, is it in the right format. If not you have to have a conversion program. "Sometimes" they do not convert right and you have to do a ton of work to get it right.
3. Make sure the textures work, line up on the model correctly, and have illumination maps. Once again if not, you have alot of work ahead of you.
4. IF you have everything working right, the textures look good, there are no holes in the model, all the faces face the right way so you don't have transparent parts when you view it in Celestia, and you have all the diffuse, specular, ambient light correctly set, then you can converet it to cmod.
5. You have one more big hurdle.
6. Get permission from the original artist of the model to use it, show it, and redistribute it to everyone.
I have one K'Tinga class model I am still working on that I have had for 3 months. During the conversion from lwo to 3ds the faces became messed up and I have to replace or flip correctly, to make it look right in Celestia.
So, you can see there is alot of work involved. Also everything I have used I have asked permission first(those that require it in their readme or copywrite notice). Keeps me outa trouble.
I would expect the same for all the work I do to these models just to get them into Celestia.
I would also like to give a BIG thank you to Reiko, for all the help she gives me too

Re: Star Trek addons by fungun
Like I said in another post-If it isn't in Celestia it is not in my addon. There is not enough confirmed information to plot the second star in a 3d enviroment or Fridger would have it in here. Do a search in the forum to confirm his comments about such omissions. (and he is the expert)
You guys that are saying the textures are bad or rough are using the OpenGL 2.0 path. Try just using the OPenGL Vertex Program setting by using "Ctrl v".
I do not use the OpenGL 2.0 path with my ATI card it is too buggy.
In the "canon" Trek universe Coridan only has 3 planets not 5.
bdfd's textures are mostly 1k with a few 2k's thrown in. Does he have the Coridan shipyards present. It should be according to "canon". I usually never knock anothers addons, believe me I could. Small textures, almost all have no spec maps, "canon" is ignored alot, atmospheres need work, and the same model in almost every addon. Shall I go on, or are you guys gonna lay off and have some fun with Celestia?
Remember-"Don't sweat the small stuff...and it's all small stuff"
Just hasn't been at the ML till now.
