Nasa ISS model hightly detailled
Re: Nasa ISS model hightly detailled
Daniel,
That is a "high end" configuration.
I'm still running a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 P550 with a GF 7800 GTX.

I am still running less than that on my Desktop, Selden
3.2 GHz Pentium 4/ 3 MB Ram with a FX5900Ultra
But I am also not much interested in playing with models ...

That's stunning Chris... I especially like the Canadarm detail.
Well done.

Re: Nasa ISS model hightly detailled
Just imported the shuttle model into Bryce, just to check it out... It has remarkable similarities to a certain model, with a few improvements, namely the window frame detail. If I didn't know any better I'd say it was bh's model.

Heh... I'm on about the model from Nasa... the hires shuttle.
I think I've worked out why they are essentially the same model... will explain later.

Sorry for all this time
sometimes the disease or rather the m?dicaments are the winner.
But since a few days i feel better. More only 5 months and this therapy wil be terminated and i will return to a normal life.
The calculation program was not working during this time after a modification to read directly the 3ds position meshes.
Gilles the developper of this program furnish me a ssc file with most elements assembled.
For me i tried to optimize polygon and map some new textures. As Andrea suggest me about cosmonauts, corection was done.On the picture below the very detailled solar pannels (you will have the choise).
Tomorow i do the cmod and dds convertion.
I'am in doubt for the nasa logo restricted use advertisement: is it legal to use it in celestia (i presume this restriction is not concerning celestia)

Re: Nasa ISS model hightly detailled
Sorry but my internet connection was broken for a long time.
Some news:
During this time the model has a new look, it will give good result on heavy computer.
I made a lot of new textures with original nasa pictures
For the moment a long french script cel describe the iss construction.
Lot of mission are included with news models as Soyuz TM, Progress MI, Progress M ,MPL Leonardo module, node 1 and 2, Misses 1-2-3-4-5-6 exp?riments and others..
My friend Gilles is working now on the SRMS movement
I have some problems:
-If i want to make dxt3 or dxt5 texture , my model became transparent (i use official nvidia dds utilities )
Is that normal or perhaps a manipulation must be done ?
-I use a nasa Atlantis model for all the mission.
Can i use the same model with instruction in the ssc file to just change the texture with name discovery/Endeavour?

Re: Nasa ISS model hightly detailled
Well the detailing and textures are just staggering... it's like a proper virtual tour of the station! I like the shuttle teaser. This would probably be too slow on my machine to be feasible however. Great stuff all the same.

Did you specify an Alpha channel?
Dxt3 and Dxt5 will use an Alpha channel if that is what you specify. The Alpha channel specifies opacity. The model will be opaque where the image used for the Alpha channel is white, and transparent where the Alpha channel is black.

1. It depends on how the textures are mapped onto the model.
The Texture command replaces all diffuse surface textures with the one texture specified.
If the model uses only one diffuse texture, then it probably will work.
2. The different shuttles have slightly different designs. Changing the name might or might not be appropriate depending on the details of the model and how accurate you want it to be.

The thumbs look gorgeous, but could you post jpeg-optimized-for-the-web files instead of pngs? (Not all the planet is on fast dsl lines unfortunately; from here cannot open a single shot... )

Yes... imageshack is a pain in the butt, I'm not keen on partypoker at full screen!
Is the ISS model complete or as is now?

hello Selden
I tried yesterday different command with nvidia nvdxt utilities like this one or others:
wine nvdxt -file atpir2.jpg -dxt5 -alpha -aclear -rescale -gamma -outdir
But picture are transparent.... (the wine command emulate windows on linux)
I have also tried DDS converter 2 and i don't find a place to specify that the alpha channel is white
With The Gimp i have a plugin to use dds picture and i don't f find
more solution.
The white alpha channel must be specified then i create the picture with Gimp ?

Hello soon back in Montpellier... ?
I have got downloaded about 800 MB good pictures before my connection was broken
Lot of good picture here, you can specify if you search Soyuz Expedition or STS Mission with Shuttles.
http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/
My ssc file coul'd perhaps help you, if you want .
I had a look on your model 2 months ago, it was very good and really interesting if your model can run on most computers.
ISS needed really others models for celestia.
As soon my pack will be online, i will have a new look to your model on Celestial Matters.

ISS construction is complete now:
-i have to verify some timing for different meshes
-To complete my ssc file with the soyuz and progress from 2005 to 2009
-To finalize the french script and do a separate script for different years
-Trying to propose the same scripts in english
-To do the dds/cmod conversion
Did someone watched the little movie here ?

can furnish an avi format but quality is very lower
