Work in progress : horizontal layer with man scale

I'm building another layer to show the scale of Man in the universe, and to show the horizontal plane (at my location). Two views :

homo_sapiens.jpg

It's only missing some scale labels (10 meters, 100 meters, 1 km, ... up to 1 million km).

Too bad there aren't any shadows in Celestia.

you presumably mean the "tangent plane" in math terms?

Well, at least for Europeans, there is some VERY important little part missing with this MAN ;-)
This sort of sexless Zombies are not even shown anymore in our grammar schools, in order not to upset the adolescent pupils too much,...ahem

Of course. What else could it be ? That plane is also rotating with Earth (fixed location).

I'm experiencing some glitches on the grid : while moving around, some parts are "blinking" a bit.

Heheheee. I was thinking about adding this "vital" bit. Not sure, since I'll use the model in the classroom ! The easy solution would be to put some clothes on the man. But I wanted to use a "Homo Sapiens" model... Maybe a long tie, or a leaf ?

I would prefer to use some sitting model, like the one shown below, but I didn't found any without defects...

I'm not sure to see the interest of such scale... (man vs galaxy?? what's the point?)

Fridger,

Well some may think that last one is a bit to, per say religious, lol.

I would think a natural would be the Vitruvian Man myself.

Of course finding a 3d model of him may prove difficult.

And yes, unfortunately I live in a nation that thinks everyone should look and be just like the
sexless zombie. So much for the U.S.A.'s forward thinking in the 21st century. Nope its just more of the same Technological Victorianism here folks.

I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

The local horizontal grid layer I'm building is very usefull to show some sizes (moons, pulsars, ...), compared to the local place where we live :
quebec.jpg

It's also usefull to study the motion of the Moon, from the local perspective :

If only the Man model wasn't looking like a dumb zombie ! I need a "pensive man" model, something more poetic in some way.

Why don't you provide some nice Einsteinian hair fashion to your bold sitting zombie? That would make it definitely more "pensive" ;-)

Actually a 3d "Einstein" would be quite cool...

Maybe this model is better ? At least, he's looking at the sky. The model is pretty large, though.

For such purposes I would always prefer female models. Every ad in the US for BIG amateur telescopes displays a pretty girl next to the instrument, for example ... ;-)

Certainly never shown are bold males in bronze colored underwear ... hi hi

How about this, then (with colors) ?

Most female models are way too sexy (even pornographic). I'm not sure this model is well fitted in a classroom.

I think this model is perfectly decent, yet does attract attention. So if you don't want a 3d Einstein wearing Bob's hair fashion of course ;-), that young lady looks pretty much "pensive" . Her face appears sensitive and intelligent.

I am sure my French friend ElChristou shares my preferences... ;-)

Not completely. Perso for this kind of stuff I would use a model of a classical greek or roman statue...

Now wait a minute...

We DO have female users too, you know. Shouldn't you offer a choice here?
