Thanks Cham and Elchristou for these tutorials. Sincerely I do not Know where to reply! I reply here as conseguence of the topic and though I should reply elsewhere! However...
Cham, I suspect this way of modelling to be for your Mercury, because the Earth'structure and Europa are made in different manner; this method I think is better, because does avoid an excessive numbers of texture (for this purpose I've made the mine with the 3 disk, of which I believe of having understood what you intend for "invisible parts", that is, the "inside" parts of the disks). Anyhow, do you confirm that in Celestia no blinks are amongst spheres? Well. Once at home I shall play with it.
My old claim for a standardized development had as goal a criterium for these add-ons, which, even though made by others, they could "looks" uniformly; the texts and the textures too, that is, once defined the fonts to apply, one could have had share even the data alone, to apply on a whole-criterium model, either by re-copying them one by one (yet in traslations) or by the insertion in the model through an invisible sphere shipped with the descriptions glued together. The texture could have followed the same path of choose (I really love your fiery Mercury's texture, for example). All this would have had the "feeling" of a team work, in which several works on the same add-on could have made it great. Well again. (All this panegiric is for saying that I'm absolutely not jealous of my work, eh, eh).
For all the considerations on how to integrate it in Celestia without to place it far away in the galaxy (the altsurface method and so on), I do not know what to say because at least I think to be best finishing it first, and then to see what we can do. The gas giants, IMHO paradoxically, with respect to superficial data, I feel that will be the most difficults, and I should press mainly for the math points method. Several sphere of diversely dense points could imitate the gas atmosphere through which to see the solid parts beneath. If this method would may work fine, apart the rest, I shall unable to help because I do not have Mathematica or similar software. For this I'm waiting to see what should be happened, before to undertake their development.
One of the my suggestion for Celestia's roadmap is the possibility of having the "show locations" even for the 3D models, where together the name one could to write some explanation about the place.

that is, below the image with the red cross-section, do you apply one texture to the three circular sectors leaving the rest of the sphere unmapped or apply one texture to the entire mantle cross-sected, which will then be hide by the crust?

the "crust" and the "mantle" are separate pieces (which I haven't shown on the pictures above). I'm applying a different texture on each of them. As I said at the end of my tutorial, I repeat the process (making several inner spheres and using the bridge tool again), to make the different layers inside the model (crust, mantle, core, etc).

Intermixing models have been avoided, so one should consider how they substantially depends upon permeable/impermeable asthenosphere layer as well as viscosity and Rayleigh number. I've assumed just the two essential data in the document. The CMOD model's link is below:

This model is a three-fold rappresentation of two supposed models: two for the core and the mantle and two for the icy layers (plus a general mixed one):
Note: in order to have Titan's interior in the Solar System, deactivate titan_interior.ssc and activate the other (remove the redundant text); then start the script. Hit the Ctrl+i will toggle between layers.
In this latter case - in order to avoid the "griddish" view, due to the presence of the interior' models beneath the planets - please merge the PLANETARY_INTERIORS.CELX or TITAN_INTERIOR.CELX's strings in your personal START.CELX, because they will be invisible at start. Otherwise, let the interiors' radius a bit smaller.
I've modified the code, which now no longer use the setradius function anymore, as follow:
I've set the emissivity to 0.5 and added the black specularmap for reducing a bit the sunlight's shineness inside the cross-section when in OpenGL 2.0 mode. The model is here:

Here's my version of Io's interior. For this model, I don't intend to add any text inside. I'm also very hesitating to add any emissivity since I like very much the actual feel (despite the heat inside the real thing) :

In my opinion, for the gas giant your link image probably is better as well as this typology:

Here's my version of Uranus. I only have to add some text information inside (chemical composition and temperature...). The model is a layer superposed on Celestia's Uranus (click for a larger picture :

These models are very cool. I really like Fenerit's models, but I also think that the
AltSurface option would be much better accepted by Celestia Users.
Any way to convert these models to textures so that the AltSurface option could be
used here?
I know I'm a pain in the ass, but I really do like these models. I don't think, however, that
most users are going to want the Solar System displayed using Fenerit's
alternative Solar System models (although they really ARE easy to use and understand. )
At any rate, just my two cents worth here. These add-ons are very interesting.
Martin? Are you going to create these things for AltSurface texture use?

this is about 3D models, not textures. So they can't be used as alternate textures. The models are "layers" which can be toggled ON/OFF using a script in the script menu. The altTextures contextual sub-menu is made for ... well, ... textures only !

Yes, I understand the concepts and the implementation.
I just thought that perhaps the interior textures could be implemented on
an AltSurface texture map. I realize that it wouldn't be easy though.
No problem. These are all very cool as I stated earlier.
I have implemented the alternate Solar System as Fenerit has set it up.
I really enjoy these models too. Very nice.

Bob, an altsurface map, although possible, would shows it without 3d "depth" when viewed by side. A little ugly, IMHO.
For what concern a method to insert it in SS without affect nothing else already set, look here:

Yes, I do understand...
For what it's worth though, your models are very nice, and I personally
do not mind the alternative solar system approach to using these in Celestia.
