Updated to R4269. This contains a big update to celx files. So those who do lua scripts may want to try this.

EDIT:It was brought to my attention that there was a problem with HDR. I forgot to turn it on. This copy has an HDR on. The revision is still at 4273.

Cartrite, thanx for building new builds of Celestia on almost a daily basis! :D

How long does it take to compile Celestia? (just so users know how much effort you put in it ;))

I think it takes less than one minute if you compile every new update of svn .

I TOTALLY like the HDR philosophy implemented in Celestia. I don't now how Chris has managed to make it but it's very, very good-looking. An additional fuzzy fringe would do the stars absolutely marvellous (could be turned off and on)!
Something will have to be done with that awfully bright glare on the Earth's surface and the stars disappearing as you approach any specific star. But I'm sure those are just bugs and are too obvious to make it to the final HDR release. Thanks Chris!

Heuu... ...Dirkpitt is the guiltly one for HDR implementation, not Chris...

The background stars disappearing on approach of a star or any too bright object is the main purpose of HDR; it's not a bug...

Your Welcome. To answer your question, I build a new file from a new folder and it takes about a minute to build. I have to edit a few files celestia.rc and the vcproj file to turn on HDR which takes a little longer but it is not bad at all.

When I update my site with the new executable > 4276, it will contain a new minormoons.ssc file. Be sure to back up the original. If you run the original 1.5.0 Celestia with this file in the extras folder you will get strange results. This screenshot I took when I ran 1.5.0 with the new minormoons.ssc file.

You have been warned.

PS. Not that I really care about others posting to this thread, but I've been contacted by several people saying they subscribe to this thread to see when another update is available. Apparently they are notified via email when someone posts to this thread. So others may not appreciate it.

Then thank you Dirkpitt, it really is a nice work.
If the stars disappearing is not a bug then I would like to ask whether there is something wrong with my computer that stars disappear absolutely even when I am orbiting the Earth and even the Moon - or I am the only idiot that does not know that the Earth is so bright I would not be able to see any stars beside it

My web site now contains r4278 which includes an update for the Minor Moon and Dwarf Planet Classes. It also contains a minormoons.ssc which has been modified. It now contains the line

Code: Select all

Class "minormoons"
for every moon in that file.

Updated to revision 4280. This contains a couple of bug fixes for spice and sampled orbits. I also included an edited version of numberedmoons.ssc. I added the line Class "minormoon" to every moon in the file.

Cartrite, sorry to post again, but if you don't want people to interfere with your post you should perhaps write a clear note about this in your very first post. Other solution (more appropriate I think) would be to do a webpage dedicated to this with an rss feed...

True, stars are not visible when you look whatever bright body (planet, spacecraft etc)... You are not an idiot, it's just that the public have in mind StarWars or StarTrek images that are just completely wrong...

Alpha and omega. 8O
9 times out of 10 I'll be updating my web site at night about 10 PM EST every night. So for those who receive an email alert in the mid day, it is probably someone else posting. Further posting by me here will only be done when I feel that some major change has occurred or I added or subtracted something from the file or when I update the site that is not the regular time of 10 PM EST. I'm going to stop posting every update here.
Of course, if there are no updates to SVN, there will be nothing to update so.........

The executables that are at my web site are at revision 4309 which is one less then the current revision of 4310. Since that last update only affects MAC, I'm going to wait till the next commit to rebuild. There will be extra changes though. I plan to remove the extras folder that contained minormoons.ssc and numberedmoons.ssc.

Chris has modified those 2 files and and 3 more .ssc files from the data folder, asteroids, outersys, and solarsys that are available here.
http://www.celestiaproject.net/~claurel/celest ... system.zip
He would welcome some feedback before they are commited to SVN.

Chris wrote: Now that the minormoon and dwarfplanet classes are implemented, here's
an update of solarsys.ssc, outersys.ssc, asteroids.ssc,
minormoons.ssc, and numberedmoons.ssc:

http://www.celestiaproject.net/~claurel/celest ... system.zip

The classes of Pluto, Eris, and Ceres were changed to dwarfplanet.
Most of the moons in minormoons.ssc and numberedmoons.ssc were demoted
to the class minormoon, with the exceptions suggested by Andrew in
this forum post:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12336&p=102873#p102873

Also, I left Nix and Hydra as major moons, simply because with just
three moons, there's no need to control clutter in the Pluto system.

I like being able to see visualize the overall character of
planet-moon systems without the clutter of dozens of minor moon
orbits. Yet I admit it still feels odd to see an object like Skathi
listed as a major moon of Saturn. Anyone else care to venture and
opinion on this not-really-so-important issue?

--Chris

Since these are subject to change, I will remove the files I modified from the executable packages I've been providing pending the next update. After they are commited to SVN, I'll put them back in and update them when changes occur to them in the future until release candidates for 1.6 become available.

Pluto is STILL a planet and Eris and Ceres are STILL asteroids.Should the change only seen on orbits?
