I'm installing in linux xubuntu 7.10. Version is 1.4.1 from repositories.

I've followed the instructions - copied files as root etc but don't seem to see the utility come up. Is there a separate instruction for this setup?

As specified in the readme file, the Lua Edu Tools need Celestia 1.5:

The Lua Edu Tools are for use with Celestia 1.5

You can either compile Celestia 1.5 from the SVN repository or wait for a Linux package of Celestia 1.5.
