The model or the texture remains invisible to me. The object is recognized since we have the marker and the name but no image. In cmodview, the model appears in all its beauty after changing the names of the texture files by removing the dots (.) but no in celestia.

What Operating System are you using ?

the "." in the names should not make a difference

My system is Windows10 64bits ver. 20H2 and video Intel (R) UHD Graphics.
In cmodview, the model was black. When I removed the dots (.), I could see the texture but still not in celestia.

odd bug ?

the only thing i can think of is your built in graphics chip can not handle 4k textures on a mesh

here are 2k versions ( the normal map had to be remade from a 2k height map )
-- you can not just resize a "normal map " if you do the "height" doubles

okay this is weird
are you sure you have the file lay out of the addon correct?

like

"addon name" file

"models"
"model name . "format"

"textures"
"medres"
"texture name.jpg/png"
"texture name.jpg/png"

"file name. ssc" (in this case its ssc)

(NOTE: this is the lay out for a basic addon, i am not sure how SPICE addons are laid out)

Regarding models appearing all black in cmodview, this is actually a phenomenon I have faced regularly since I created Progress. As for the models not showing in Celestia, I have also seen this occur with my Starship addon. Only the difference with Starship is that it is only occurring on the iOS version of Celestia, and not the Windows or MacOS versions.

Maybe there's some issue thats causing cmodview & Celestia to act strangely with some of the addons which have been created recently.

trappistplanets

I embed the two textures in the cmod , so there is no need to add them to the ssc file

and this is an odd bug
"." in the name should not cause problems
and

cmodview and celestia use the same base code for rendering ,so there "should" not be a difference

Regarding models appearing all black in cmodview
i see something like this if "tangents" are not made in cmodview , but i default to making them so ?????

I actually used Mesh (model and textures), Orientation in my ssc. I did not use Spice.
But I think the problem stems from this cmod model on my pc because even after setting the internal textures to none and declaring a functional external texture in the ssc file, the asteroid does not appear in celestia (only its name and the selection marker)

Just tested this addon, and it works for me. I didn't modify anything, just placed the addon directly in extras. If you've modified the addon (e.g. "I did not use Spice"), your modification is probably the cause of the problem.

The model displays correctly in cmodview as well, without modifying the texture names.

I do not use Spice because files with Spice are not supported (library) and as I can nowhere find an explanation, I do without.
