I've found out how to use BOTH models of Stardust into Celestia without overwriting each other
Guys, you also can learn about how to make such add-ons from Celestia Origin... ( watch Cassini spacecraft add-on!)... Good luck!

For those who like me wondered how the Orientation function works in a .ssc file

Orientation [ a x y z ]
a: is angle in degrees
x: designates that the x-axis is concerned
y: designates that the y-axis is concerned
z: designates that the z-axis is concerned

The axes of the object do not really change position relative to the space.
Only the mesh is reoriented with respect to the space. Its orientation is modified in relation to its own axes.

The screenshots below were taken under the same conditions of time and location (same date, same time, same orientation of the space) with the Firefly satellite which is interresting for that by its smallness.

1st screenshot is no orientation (original mesh)
2nd screenshot is Orientation [ 90 1 0 0 ]
3rd screenshot is Orientation [ 90 0 1 0 ]
4th screenshot is Orientation [ 90 0 0 1 ]

findings:

Orientation [ 90 1 0 0 ]
# the Z0X plane rotates 90 ° around the X axis (counterclockwise - East to North)
# the X0Y plane rotates 90 ° around the X axis (counterclockwise - East to North)
# the X axis rotates 90 ° around the Z axis (clockwise - North to East)

Orientation [ 90 0 1 0 ]
# the X0Y plane rotates 90 ° around the Z axis (clockwise - North to East)
# the X0Z plane rotates 90 ° around the Z axis (clockwise - North to East)
# the Y axis rotates 90 ° around the Z axis (clockwise - North to East)

Orientation [ 90 0 0 1 ]
# the X0Z plane rotates 90 ° around the Y axis (clockwise - North to East)
# the X0Y plane rotates 90 ° around the Y axis (clockwise - North to East)
# the Z axis rotates 90 ° around the Y axis (clockwise - North to East)

On the images, we can see that the axes of Firefly are always in the same place and that indicating the Sun too. Firefly is oriented differently depending on the values of the Orientation function.

Just out of curiosity, is there a Chandra X-Ray Observatory model more detailed than the one in Celestia Origin available from somewhere?

CM1215, I'm not sure. The least that could be done is for toutatis to texture the model.
If you see that I made a dumb or nonsensical post years ago, please forgive me in advance.

A new model that was added today on the NASA 3D Resource. The spacecraft is called Clementine. It observed the Moon, and was going to go to asteroid 1620 Geographos, but contact was lost. There is orbital data on HORIZONS, so this looks like a job for toutatis! Model link: https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/detail/clementine

new model for Cluster II 5,6,7,8
origin : Nasa3D
Author/Origin: Brian Kumanchik, NASA/JPL-Caltech
Relevant Mission: Cluster II

there was a Radius error in the previous version in the .ssc file
You must modify your file for the 4 satellites:

Code: Select all

Radius Radius 0.05145 # 2.9m × 1.3m + sensors on oven 50m long wire booms
Mesh "cluster II_bin.cmod"

In the archive is not included the .ssc file

@Gironde... plz... texture "golden ramp", and "silver ramp" which you use does not works properly... it's not for cmodview...it's for Blender... 3D Max... more professional 3d modeling softwares... better use gold or silver foil textures... otherwise it's will looks not well... you can see that in your Cluster picture you posted above...

SSL1300/SL1300/FS1300 (versions 1300E, 1300HL, 1300S, 1300X) is a satellite-bus designed by Loral Space and Communications
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSL_1300

It has been used for many missions:
(complet list : https://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sat/ssloral-1300.htm)

Galaxy-18, launched 21 May 2008, Zenit-3SL
Galaxy-19, launched 24 September 2008, Zenit-3SL
Galaxy-23, launched 7 August 2003, Zenit-3SL
Galaxy-25/Telstar 5, launched 24 May 1997, Proton-K
Galaxy-26 : failed 2001 and 2008-06-28
Galaxy-27/IA-7/Telstar-7 : failed, launched 25 September 1999, Ariane 44LP

EchoStar-5 : failed 2001-07 and 2003–12
EchoStar-6 : failed, launched 14 July 2000, Atlas IIAS
EchoStar-8, launched 21 August 2002, Proton
EchoStar-9, launched 7 August 2003, Zenit-3SL
EchoStar-11, launched 17 July 2008, Zenit-3SL

DirectTV-5, launched 7 May 2002, Proton
DirecTV-6 : failed
DirectTV-7s, launched 4 May 2004, Zenit-3SL
DirectTV-9s, launched 13 October 2006, Ariane 5-ECA

Intelsat 7 : failed, 16 September 1998, Ariane 44LP
Intelsat 8, launched 4 November 1998, Proton-K
Intelsat 19 = failed, launched 1 June 2012, Zenit-3SL

Telstar 14 / Estrela do Sul 1 : failed
Telstar 14R / Estrela do Sul 2 : failed

GOES 9 : failed 1998-06-01

PAS 6 : failed 2004-03-17 and 2004-04-01

Story of Loral Space and Communications : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loral_Space_&_Communications

On Nasa3D, there are 2 models for the SSL1300 bus:
Lasercom
Loral 1300Com
They are slightly different
The models have a flaw, the satellite dishes have no back and are tranparentes seen from this side.
To assign a satellite to one or the other models remains very difficult because there is little information on this series of satellites which were mainly commercial machines.

Toutatis, these are typically the textures of the Nasa3D model, I have not changed anything. My only work was the transformation to cmod with the export of Blender and cmod converter.

Using Blender and other 3D software to do what you do is Hebrew for me.
I let you do what you do better than me.

ok Gironde... I understand... but know, some faces of models have 2 or more textures (and some these models from NASA) and when we convert in BLENDER these models from .BLEND to 3DS we loosing part of information about UV MAPs of such faces of these models... so after converting we have only one UV MAP for every face of model... and that is BLENDER fault... and I do not know why they do such shit... so I make this work from the zero often.. UV MAPING of such converted models... but need more time for this!

Added after 6 minutes 7 seconds:
The models have a flaw, the satellite dishes have no back and are tranparentes seen from this side.
that is not a big task to solve this problem... it is a easy work...

It happens every once in a while, but if you give it some time, it'll probably pick up again.
